Daikon/Dak'kon reference
« on: April 01, 2008, 10:07:13 am »

"I swear by the hero, Daikon, this time I will kill you."

"I guard the homeworld. I seek revenge against its destroyers, the Ur-Quan and their vile battle thralls. I await the return of the hero Daikon and the rebirth of my species."

In the 1999 game Planescape: Torment, there is a githzerai PC, Dak'kon, who is a warrior (well, and mage, but that doesn't concern us now) as well. Not only that (and not only is his name so similar to "Daikon"), but: (from Wikipedia)

In the main campaign of Neverwinter Nights 2, Dak'kon is spoken of as one of three Githzerai Heroes. Apparently, his travels with The Nameless One made him the stuff of legends.

It's clear to me that this is a reference to SC2. Your thoughts?

Not really. The names of all Shofixti seem to be gratuitous Japanese, and Daikon is no exception; it's the name of a vegetable.

Nah its not. Something like Dak'kon makes way as an alien esque name. Plus don't forget the Shofixti home planet was named after a Japanese cabbage and a Shofixti pilot was named as a Bonsai tree.

Uh, yeah. That joke was spoiled too soon for me. Apparently not for Draxas and Elerium. Hang your heads in shame, both of you.

I didn't notice it either, probably due to the fact that a thread like this would be very close to the Valaggar way...

Heh, it's indistinguishable to decipher whether a Valaggar thread is actually serious or an April Fool's joke.

I suppose you've forgotten/haven't noticed that I've changed?

Once you've been stereotyped, it's hard to change peoples perception Red.

Between this and the space/time/colors thread, I think I can be forgiven for thinking this was another tangent thread storm like we're used to. Once you have a rep, it's hard to lose it.

I did miss the fine print, though. I guess the "joke's" on me.

God I hate April 1st (though this year was at least pretty mild).

Is it really a stereotype if it's just about one guy?

I assume Luki means that Valaggar has been categorized under an existing stereotype.
