What would really emphasize it is some fast-paced techno music, to contrast how slow the game is going.

I'm thinking something like
http://djpretzel.web.aplus.net/songs/Final_Doom_Quick_Fix_OC_ReMix.mp3

or

or maybe

chenjesummrnmhrm:

Ha ha ha, screw that. You guys can turn off your sound if you don't like Mario Twins. The music really helps drive the message home.

I hope this helps you in some way.

Maybe we should just add a melee mode in which for every 30-60 seconds of either ship taking no damage 1 crew dies on both ships with a message 1 crew dies in boredom-related accident ? Cheesy
That should encourage the smaller ship's pilot to act.

Where do you live? Western Australia, Indonesia, Taiwan? I picked a time that was good for Europe and North America, but obviously that whole slice of the world draws the short stick. I'm really sorry about that, but there's not a lot that can be done. If 10+ Aussie players were to show up spontaneously, I'd tell them to host their own tournament.

Yep W.A., hey its not a problem i just have to remember to stay up late thats all. besides i reckon its probably worth it.

I think you mean "no less so" in that first sentence, and going by that I'm gonna have to call you on it. Spathi's range is rather short. The only thing that sucks about Spathi is that people try to play it like they do against the computer, forcing much longer matches than necessary. The truth is that Spathi needs to be played somewhat aggressively to get any mileage at all. Druuge can throw itself at a nice high speed with recoil, but after reaching a certain velocity the ship is simply flying out of control. A Druuge going at an insane velocity is very easy to catch and kill flying backwards on a wrap-around.

Yeah i will agree the thraddash does have more control of their velocity but i still reckon that other ships are equally good at dragging a battle out. Besides when i play torch it aint a long battle.

What is this video you speak of?

Many options have been discussed. None really work. This one? ZFP+Spathi as a guaranteed Chmmr kill would be a good deal, and what's more, it would take a guaranteed 21 minutes to finish.

Here. As soon as you open the page, click "download". The page takes just as long to load as the download itself, so you may as well see the progress of it.

Hi! I'm new to the message boards. I'd like to be in this tournament, or maybe next month's so I have time to get better.
Anyway, is there a free IRC client I should use (for Windows)? What do you use?

Thraddash takes waaaay too long to finish a fight with it. The guy just sits taking pot shots at you or constantly runs away using the Afterburner.

Isn't taking pot-shots at range, and using the afterburner to run away the most sensible way for a human to use the Torch against another human?  It doesn't make sense to bum rush something that can hit you way harder than you can hit it, when you have a fairly long range weapon, you just have to make your shots count and be patient.  The Thraddash's gun doesn't exactly shoot fast either

Just because the course of action is sensible doesn't mean that it's fun.

I just realized Firefox actually had its own inbuilt IRC client, I didn't know that. It doesn't matter though, because X-Chat is way faster than Firefox.

Edit: Didn't want to double post, I plan on attending the tournament on the 19th.

Just signed up to say - I'll be coming along to this tournament. I haven't played melee against a human since star control 1 first came out on the amiga, but with any luck I'll add to the numbers and make a few good matches for a few players.

How long does a tournament normally take, time-wise?

2-3 hours? I can't give an exact estimate because some people tend to drag their fights out more than others. The last tournament we played was fairly short because we only had 8 people and the handicapped scores made things go by quickly.
