Just started doing NetMelee. Played two people, one of them was a beginner like me. To be honest, though, I didn't see a distinct difference between them and the AI besides the removal of some basic stupidity. They were good, very good, but I didn't notice a tactical difference.

That doesn't make sense. You played Orz against my Chmmr, which is arguably the best match to highlight a difference between human and cyborg. It went pretty much exactly as described too, with Orz inflicting some damage but not really being able to stay clear of a planet-obsessed Chmmr indefinitely.

The tactical difference is enormous. The main difference is that the AI flies towards you, while human players fly away. That is one difference which has an overwhelming effect on the melee. Play a few more – you’ll see.
The makers recognised the limitations of the AI so compensated with 99% firing accuracy

These other players didn't use the planet

The best against an Avatar is a Marauder. You don't even need to think to kill every zapsat, then another ship can kill it. 7 Dreadnoughts/7Marauders can beat 14 Avatars in this way. (I haven't tried on a human yet, but the basic idea is to first use a Marauder to fry the sats and inflict as much dmg as possible, then use an urquan: launch fighters/ shoot at the Avatar)

I've found that in PVP, Chmmr and Kohr-Ah tend to avoid each other. The reason for this is that Chmmr typically defeats Kohr-Ah, yet Kohr-Ah will obliterate all three satellites every single time. It's a bad match for both sides. Mirroring is more intelligent because Kohr-Ah vs Kohr-Ah is even odds, while Chmmr vs Chmmr leaves the winning side with their satellites. Squisher would disagree with me on this completely, but he hasn't played in over a year.

If they're avoiding each other, wouldn't the Kohr-Ah win just by shooting blades? The Chmmr has to get close to use its weapon.

This question must be some kind of bad joke.

I'm saying, why would the Avatar pilot want to just avoid the Marauder? It's not likely going to win that way.
