Actually, and I only say this because it's not a bump as this thread was already at the top, but if the current controversy around Diablo 3, that being that the "community" thinks the game is too bright and colorful and they want it to be toned down, darkened, and only use shades of brown, if they get their way then I say don't bother making a new Star Control. Star Control 3 was washed out enough to make me think if they do that again I'm not going to bother with it.

Guesst, it's not the same thing at all. While Star Control 1 and 2 are colorful and have a somewhat whimsical look, Diablo 1 and 2 look pretty dark and gritty. I've hardly seen anything on Diablo 3, but if people think it looks too bright, it's probably because that's a departure for the series.

Let's just hope they don't cut down on the clicking, that'd be a real departure from tradition.

No, we already have one of those and it really didn't turn out well.

Hahaha... Those puppet things can never replace the colorful and pixelated graphics from Star Control 1 and 2.

I have nothing against Diablo III.  It's a beautiful looking game, and I won't stop hacking, slashing and casting spells just because to make it a little different.  It's Diablo III, not Diablo II 3D!

The world needs a new Star Control from the masters who made the first 2 masterpieces: Toys for Bob!  No matter how powerful the hardware is or how much money was spent on it, it's the quality that matters in the end.  I've never heard anyone review Haze and said "The gameplay sucks, dialog sucks, AI sucks... uh... But I like it because it's a FPS and a lot of money is spent on it!"

Star Control will remind everyone that "following the formula" isn't the only way to be successful in the gaming industry.  Science Fiction is not dead!

I duuno, I'm not averse to the idea of using puppets per se. Just ugly ones with really washed out colours. That was always one of the odd things in SC3, how do you get from the bright cartoony feeling of SC2 to that grim bleak future?

It's a risk/reward thing. Because games cost an insane amount of money to produce nowadays, no one wants to risk an expensive flop. The same thing goes for movies as well. Sure, there'll be some odballs out there every now and then, and some really successful new ones from proven makers. But mostly it's the same old same old.

Which is why we not only need a new SC game, but a Sci-FI TV-series, a musical (on ice) and a comic book. And possibly coffee mugs.  Oh, and a card game. It's annoying, because if someone had the money and time this concept couldStar Control will remind everyone that "following the formula" isn't the only way to be successful in the gaming industry generate millions.

Never? There must be at least some guy who's paid by the makers to do exactly that Wink

(Hey, if you have lots of money...)
