I tried using two Xbox 360 wireless controllers in UQM, and they didn't do anything anywhere. (They do work in other games.) At first I tried configuring the joystick controls in the game setup, but it didn't respond to pressing buttons. So I tried the technical FAQ, and it said something about modifying profiles in keys.cfg, and that the file itself contains more info. Yet the file has no comments, and I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do (or whether the file really is the problem). Help?

If you modified the settings in the game, the game will overwrite the keys.cfg, and the generated file will not contain comments. You can either remove the keys.cfg file and run uqm once so that it will copy the standard config file, or extract the original config file from uqm-content-0.6.uqm manually (it's just a zip file).

Thanks. The comments didn't help much though. I don't really know how this joystick/gamepad business works, so I haven't a clue what I should do next. Or graphically, "".

So what is the current requirement exactly, that the gamepads be connected while running UQM's setup? Oh, I forgot to mention I'm on Windows NT 6.0 (AKA Vista). Sorry to disappoint. But hey, I like it, I like my set of apps, and I help sustaining loads of people's jobs so they can support their families! So using proprietary software is actually a humanitarian thing to do!

As far as I can tell, exiting the setup menu writes a configuration file without bindings for any joysticks that were not available at the time UQM was started. In any case, the input configuration code is heavily rewritten in the current SVN version.
