New Batman movie
« on: July 18, 2008, 05:48:00 pm »

I haven't seen it, and am debating whether to spend my hard-earned cash on a debatably good movie.

I know it's gotten great reviews, but I'd say 61% of that is because Heath Ledger died.  Batman Begins was pretty good. For those who have seen Dark Knight, what was your overall reaction?

The movie was quite frankly awesome. I thought Ledger's Joker was just amazingly on the ball. The way he acted, the way he planned things, it was very very good. I really do think the movie is worth it.

Agreed about Ledger's acting. He pulled off Joker to a T. I used to watch the batman cartoon, and it's kind of amazing how different Dark Knight's portrayal of Joker was compared to the original. I remember the cartoon version of him was a bigger fan of releasing smoke bombs and playing pranks on Batman with his cohorts. Ledger's joker more resembled Jigsaw from the Saw movies. I thought it was kind of stupid how they related it to his abusive father, but whatever.

I thought I remembered Bruce Wayne being kind of likeable, but Christian Bale made him seem like a cocky jerk, way more so then in Batman Begins.  In the next one, I hope they have a mention of Bane. He was definitely the coolest Batman villian.

I don't think he was changing it, I think he was just adding more to it. Sorry for the spoiler, but it's a pretty insignificant detail.

It's awesome. Ledger's Joker lives up to the hype, it's not just cause he died.

And I'm pretty sure the Joker was just making stuff up with his scar stories.

As for Bruce Wayne being a cocky jerk, he puts on a public image as a somewhat arrogant playboy (this was in Begins too, such as the party scene). When he's alone with people he can fully trust (like Alfred), he's more likable.

what makes you think he made up those stories? There wasn't really a hint of that, was there? He mentions twice that he hated his father, and where else would the scars come from? He was made out to be a disturbing character. Reminds me of the angle they took with Michael Myers.

My friends and I figured that the changing story was part of his "lack of motive". A real reason or something tangible to pin his anarchy on would sort of be anti-the Joker of the movie. I think it makes more sense for him to have no real reason, hes just pure chaotic evil

I totally agree that a lack of reason behind why he's the Joker is a better angle, and makes more sense from a character standpoint, but do you really think the movie made the explanation that complicated? The stories didn't change. They were about seperate scars and seperate incidents.

Man, I'm looking forward to this. It airs over ehre on the 25th, so just a few more days. I really liked the first one, even though I thought the story was a bit weak here and there. And the trailers seem to promise an awesome Joker.

Well his different versions had parts that were contradictory, so one would assume he was inventing at least some details.

Edit: Thought the movie was amaaaaaziiiiiiiiing!

I don't see any reason to think the Joker was telling stories about different scars, and he probably would have come up with another story had Batman let him.

Also, in one of the comics the Joker says, "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"

I'm pretty glad about that. I'd be really disappointed if the Joker was the way he is because of his abusive father.

Yeah it was pretty obvious they were different stories about the same scars (the ones by his mouth). I like the idea that maybe he's not inventing stories so much as he literally does not remember it the same way twice!
