Settings Problem
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:52:27 pm »

Howdy y'all! Thanks for letting me join the UQM forums.  Smiley

I've come upon a problem that started after playing UQM for a few months.  Every time I start to play UQM 0.6.2 I crash to the "Blue Screen of Death" after talking to Commander Hayes. It crashes precisely each time after I select a dialog choice after Hayes asks if I'm the Ur Quan resupply ship.  Sad

It's possible this could have occured when I changed settings from the default settings that the game has once installed for the first time. If someone could give me the default settings that might fix the problem. If not...  Cry

I don't what to do now?

It shouldn't be possible for any application to bring the whole system down. It may be that what UQM is doing triggers the problem, but the actual bug must be in the system software. Usually that means one of the device drivers. I suggest that you make sure that the drivers for your video and audio hardware are up-to-date.
UQM does have two different ways to handle video. If the problem is with the video driver, you may be able to work around it by using OpenGL mode instead of "pure" mode, or the other way around.

Looks like I finally found the problem. Or whatever it was.  Tongue

It may have been a sound driver settings. Or some cookie bits I removed after uninstalling the game.

The important part is that it now seems to be working!  Grin

I'm gonna go play it now... see ya around and thanks for responding meep-eep.  Smiley
