Due to the SC2 races quiz I've changed my avatar , but now have a problem - it is stretched . Is there any way in the preferenses to adjust it , or I will have to re-animate the gif to proper square size ?

As far as I can tell all avatars are shown at 65x65 and there's no way to override it. I recommend resizing the image to match this.
