Duke Nukem Loves Star Control
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:30:16 pm »

Hello Everyone,

I used the services of Jon St. John (voice of Duke Nukem) to provide custom Duke Nukem speech.  Check it out:
http://starcontroller.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/dukestarcontrol.mp3

I'd love to see the look on the face of Activision employees if they listen to that Cheesy

There's more info on my blog at http://starcontroller.com/?p=373

I hope you all like it.  It's not everyday when you hear someone say "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry, Activision!" Tongue

You guys had better help fill up the comments section of that blog post. A big stunt like this needs to throw a commotion.

I concur.  Sometimes the blog posts feel empty, and I love reading comments of other people.  It is not mandatory to enter your e-mail or website when posting.  Those fields can be left blank.

Thanks for the Digg, Mr. Brian.  I've got a lot of bandwidth for the blog, so it should be able to survive the infamous "digg effect".

I chose to support a new Star Control game this way because I wanted to show that Star Control is more than just a cult following and that there is so much to gain from a sequel being made.

Also, people mentioning Star Control in Spore reviews means a lot to me too.  In addition to the Duke Nukem audio, it helps backup the point that Star Control is more than a simple "90's sci-fi" game.

It also gives Alex more to show Activision when it's time to decide what their next game should be.

Thanks for all the feedback, and please keep it coming.

I wonder whether the poster (on that blog post) who purports to be Paul Reiche III (Blessed Be His Holy Name) is actually Him. Regardless, his idea does have a certain appeal -- if we can get Irenicus to disintegrate the hell out of Activision, that'd definitely help a lot.

I could send an e-mail to confirm it was him if I get the time to do so.  Regarding the voice Irenicus by David Warner, I can't find any immediate way of contacting David Warner, so if I do consider getting another audio clip, I'd have to search for his manager, then it would be more complicated.  Jon owns a studio and does his own work, and has co-workers that do other voices as well.

Hee hee... I'm sooooooo happy that everyone is enjoying this more than I thought.  It means a lot to me.  Scott Irving (Pages of Now and Forever) said that he couldn't stop laughing when he first heard this.

Hmm... That would be awesome.  I posted the MP3 file on the 3D Realms forums and there are some people who played Star Control in there who like it.  Even the ones that haven't played Star Control enjoy hearing the voice of Duke.

I heard Duke Nukem Forever is actually coming out soon. The butt of jokes across the internet for I'm not even sure how long, and now it might actually turn out to be a good game.

To my shame I have to admit I forgot all about the blog. Will get right on commenting stuff and actually add it to my bookmarks so I don't forget again

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words and I will definitely make sure to keep up the good work.  I love reading those comments.

Also, I plan on redesigning the blog so I can have a better visual layout and look more attractive.  I don't have set date for this, but I'll be looking for different themes that I can tweak for the blog.

It looks good already. Really. The only thing you can't do with the blog at this moment is embed GameVee clips because those are too big. Here's a random example.
