Ur-Quan Coalition
« on: September 20, 2011, 08:39:47 am »

After the defeat of the Ur-Quan by the destruction of the Sa-Matra, the Chmmr and other Alliance peacemaker were declared peace with the Ur-Quan. Then once their former Hierarchy were defeated as well, the Ur-Quan and their former battle thrall will ally with the Alliance (as the Chmmr peacemaker declared peace with them), and the alliance between the Ur-Quan and the New Alliance of Free Stars was named the "Ur-Quan Coalition".
Anyone can make it for Project 6014.

Ur-Quan Coalition affiliated races:

Ur-Quan
Chmmr
Earthling
Arilou
Shofixti
Yehat
Pkunk
Mycon
Orz
Utwig
Supox
Syreen
Spathi
Umgah
Zoq-Fot-Pik

The Ur-Quan Coalition's common enemies are the Lurg and the Kohr-Ah.
Anyone can make the three-way war between the Ur-Quan Coalition, the Kohr-Ah, and the Lurg for Project 6014.

Neutral races:

VUX
Ilwrath
DakTakLakPak
Lk
Owa
Druuge
Melnorme

I smell Star Control 3 in this....

There's a problem with the Ur-Quan siding with the Alliance: the Kzer-Za may at times be rational, but they, just like the Kohr-Ah, are clearly terrified by the mere idea that they might once again become slave races in the future. It's also important to remember the Ur-Quan's territorial nature; the only reason they joined the Sentient Milieu in the past was because the Taalo didn't trigger their territorial instincts.

Also, there's no indication that the Chmmr ever tried to make peace with the Ur-Quan at the end of Star Control II.

In addition there is a question with Yehat/Pkunk merging, slaveshielded Spathi (and Vux in P6014), extinct Ilwrath...

Yeah, and even after they were part of the Milieu, by all accounts, they spent most of their time scouting the outer reaches of Milieu space, specifically to avoid triggering their territorial nature with other Milieu races besides the Taalo.

Besides which, to me it seems somewhat presumptuous to suggest a name like "the Ur-Quan Coalition" after having your ass kicked by your new "allies."  I somehow doubt any of the Alliance member races would accept such a name change.  Frankly, if history is any indicator, the Ur-Quan would probably be subject to some pretty severe injunctions as part of any peace talks, considering what they did to the sentient races in this part of the galaxy over the last 40-50 years.  Such injunctions would likely seem like a form of slavery to the Ur-Quan, I imagine, and thus I don't see any such peace talks being terribly successful.

More likely the two Ur-Quan races would retreat, possibly combine their forces, and start looking for another way to deal with this "troublesome" sector of space.  The idea that the Ur-Quan just turned around and joined the Alliance because they lost ONE ship was always one of my least favourite aspects of SC3.  (Admittedly it was a very powerful ship, but considering how long they took to bring it into play during the Crucible of Sentience, they obviously don't think of it as their only means of fighting a war.)

The Ur-Quan Coalition's primary enemy are the Lurg because the Lurg is too powerful species in the region of space.

So they say. Do you really trust that they're telling the truth?

Why do you think the Ur-Quan left the Lurg alone? It just doesn't seem to be in the Ur-Quan's nature to do that. Of course, it doesn't seem to be in the Ur-Quan's nature to form any civilization capable of space flight. That generally requires getting along with each other.  I've wondered if the Lurg could be Brown Ur-Quan or descendants of them.  The original box art was supposed to be the Ur-Quan.

I just think the Ur-Quan hadn't made it to them yet, they were dealing with us first. And then the Kohr-Ah came around, and then some impertinent human in a Precursor service vessel, and we all know how that turned out.

They seem a bit too "different" from the two Ur-Quan races, physiologically speaking, to be a depiction of the brown version.  At least, in my opinion.  It's true the that black and the green were created by genetic manipulation, so it's entirely possible that the extent of such manipulation resulted in more than just cosmetic changes to the species.   I just don't "feel it" on a personal level, you know?  I prefer to think of the Lurg as an entirely different species and cut ties to the fact that it was supposed to be an Ur-Quan that was drawn before the Ur-Quan image was finalized.

This was already mentioned before in another topic. The box artist(s) probably had little idea of what the Ur-Quan were supposed to look like, so they did the best they can. It's nowhere near as bad as the original Mega Man box art.

The Mega Man box art is awesome! (In a hilariously bad way). Yeah, I've heard the same story, and for some reason this seems to be a common occurrence for games of that day. Still I'm not sure which direction the 6014 writers will go with the Lurg.  Even though I'm an artist on the team and did all the artwork for the Lurg, I purposely try to keep in the dark (as much as possible). I want to be as surprised as everybody else.

My "Brown Ur-Quan" theory was just my far out theory on why the Ur-Quan left them alone.   It doesn't make too much sense to me either.  The Lurg are parasites and the Ur-Quan predator caterpillar-type things. They could have become parasites later in their evolution though. Most parasites don't even have a need for eyes. But evolution is funny and we don't know enough about the Lurg. I could see them using their teeth being used to burrow into the Prawn.

I'm wondering if the Lurg are really as powerful as they claim, and what they were doing before. Their ships aren't  as powerful as the Ur-Quan ships. Maybe they make up for it in sheer numbers.

I am banking on the ships we have encountered are not there best ships. Assuming the story has not been changed, the statement the Lurg made about the Ur-Quan leaving them alone because they knew better would indicate the Lurg must have something that is so powerful that even the Sa-Matra would not have been able to deal with it.........Or they could be full of it.....has happened before "cough" Vux insult "Cough"
