UQM is making you want to be a programmer when you grow up?  Grin

I think my dad can program in "C" but i don't know for sure, it would be interesting to make a game like Star Control 2.

Um... A little hard to understand...

If you mean to ask "do I want to be a programmer and remake UQM", then partially yes. I do want to make games (and have started my novice career using Game Maker to make free games), but I do not intend to do anything with UQM anytime soon.

What I DO intend to make would be platformers (like the one I'm making now!), RTS games, and possibly one space game. But I will in no way try to remake UQM. That would be totally unoriginal, and no fun at all.

However, maybe sometime I'll tweak the story a little bit for a small mod.

I would really like to be able to make a game like SC2, but i just know deep down in my heart that i just won't be able to do it. I mean i could make a game LIKE Ur-Quan Masters, but i couldn't EVER make an exact copy. EVER!

Take the opportunity to learn tho! Around here knowledge is fair enough to allow you to understand new things...either about programming, sound effects, graphics ..yada yada... If you decide to do something and you got question...Everybody around here will try to help you. Here let me ask you...In computer, what is your best field, the one that you feel quite confident about it. For me, it is all that is related to sound, manipulation,recording,modification etc... What about you?

For ME (don't know if you are talking to me or not), it is Microsoft programs (how to use them, etc.), and Paint-related things.

Programming. I'm right now in Visual Basic, will learn Visual C++ next year. I also use Game Maker to make games right now. Also, after Visual C++, I'll definitely transition to C++ and start making my first game in C++ (I might start by translating Bowser: The Betrayal to C++). I might also take robotics.

@Death Never stop something because you say you won't be able to do it... Result may be long, but what you will learn in the process will serve you for other things even not related to your initial project. Just fix milestones and go for it. Fair advice, people will help you if you are willing to learn. Don't expect anybody to do work for you.

@Jaychant

Minor thing...you will not learn Visual C++ you will learn C++ using the Visual Studio platform. However from what I know about C++ the best  editor is not Visual Studio... I would say it is Boreland. However that is a matter of taste. The best code with visual studio is (again this is my opinon) C#. You can get fair result in no time using the inbeded tool box and visual devlopment kit.

I doodle with both and I must say that both are really great. However the one that I could achieve significant result in less time was C#.

Oh, I thought C++ was an entirely different language written by Microsoft, and my Visual Basic teacher (who also teaches visual C++, by the way) also thinks this. But maybe I could be mistaken.

Oh, my.  Your teacher is officially dangerous.  Although he may be thinking of C#, which Microsoft did invent.

For a proper history lesson, consult the Oracle of Wikipedia:

C programming language
C++ programming language
C# programming language

I'm not surprised if he's just totally wrong. He also thought that Microsoft changed to .docx to be "more standard". Here's what he said:
Quote
They changed it to XML to make it more standard
Not sure it's word for word, but it's the jist of what he said. And we all know, of course, that the standard is definitely not DOCX, it's ODF.

About C#, my VB teacher doesn't teach it. He just teaches Visual BASIC and C++ when it comes to languages, so I'd bet he didn't screw up names.
