If you were to add another race to star control, what would they be like? Also, if possible, how do they fit into the main story line (of SC2?) The desire in this thread is for creativity, but feel free to mix in some of your own personal opinions on how a life form should exist.
When answering questions like this, I like to take the Gene Roddenberry approach and decide first what values their culture bases itself on.
Sci-fi races are almost always based on something simple like war/violence, greed, power, exploration, scientific research, etc. I won't deviate much from that, but in reality most races wouldn't be after a single goal.
To the SC2 galaxy, I'd add something to the effect of the Exquivan in SC3. I think it'd be an interesting twist if it were done correctly. They'd be part of a side story of course, probably loosely with the alliance, maybe in possession of a convenient device, but definitely not confined to the hierarchy. They'd be an extremely advanced race, non carbon-based, without the need for continual resource consumption. They're "main desire" would be to acheive what they called "enlightenment" or something, in which they could sense the galaxy in all of it's dimensions, and gain an unlimited understanding of it through a sense they possess. They don't have the need to fight, but can provide you (the captain) with ancient technology, thus gaining the ability to design ships using your own resources. Of course, there might be a connection with them and the Orz or Arilou.

A race i would add you be one (that i made up) that is an off through of the Mycon. They are total reverse of what they Mycon are. They are still Mushroom/spore like creatures though. There ship is called the SNOWBALL (which looks like the Mycons except the black is in the spots that arn't covered with a spot of, blue in this case. Also the plasmoid that is the primary weapon is red and instead of regenerating crew, they can become invonerable if you have the battery) and the race's name is HAICOZ (They look pretty much similar to the Mycon only they act as if they think the opposite of Juffowub). They would fit into the story line by, if you don't lead them into the Syreen Trap, they (after 3 months Talana said her ships were ready) would slowly creep up to the Mycon area of influence and right when they would touch, they would start fighting eachother. The fight (as they would slowly go into each other's Sphere of Influence) would last 1 year, and the conclusion would be both races destroyed completely. You could obviously talk to them if you got into the sphere of influence they own. All they would say is something like "WE ARE TO BUSY TO COMMUNICATE. LEAVE NOW, OR FOREVER PRAY YOU DO NOT GET KILLED BY OUR BROTHERS!" and they would leave the conversation, with you just coming back where you were in hyperspace/truespace. There homeworld is Organon 3 and that is where you would be able to talk with them in a complete conversation.

A raptor-like species that thrives on a molten planet filled with rivers and lakes of lava. Uses its natural weapons instead of guns, relatively peaceful. Believes protection of environment is the main duty of all intelligent life.
I actually came up with this species a couple years ago, and contemplated making a game about them. They would basically look like a Raptor with opposable thumbs and retractable claws.

A species with a very simplistic (compared to ours) and modular genetic code. They take genetic engineering to the next level - building computers by growing modified brains, etc.. Even their starships are just giant organisms with space travel ability.
In SC2, they'd by kind of like the ZFP, since it would be dumb if they were powerful.
The Umgah and Mycon both play on this angle in different ways.

No, powerful is good! Whilst I like all the backstory in SC2, who knows what introducing a big, dumb steamroller into the mix could do? It could be brilliant, or a total disaster but let's not dwell on that possibility. The idea of the Ur-Quan or, say, Pkunk coming up against something that simply cannot be reasoned with, cannot be talked to and there is nothing to find out about them other than "That bit kills you." Hilarity ensues.
