Well, I wasn't sure where to ask this stuff. The Space Rangers boards on gamefaqs are pretty dead. So I figured maybe I'll get some replies here.
Does anyone have the expansion for Space Rangers 2 (I think it came out this year)? Should I get the expansion right away or should I play without it for a bit? Is there any way I can try the RTS battles in the demo? I wish I knew if they'd work on my computer. Are they really that demanding? The rest of the demo seemed to work just fine... (though it really didn't give me much time to try the game out!) I have a laptop which has 1GB of ram (but will soon have 2GB), a dual core Pentium processor, and some crappy Intel GMA 950 graphics processing (though as I said, it seemed to work well enough for the demo, at least as much of it as I had a chance to try...)
And as for the first game.... is it still worth playing if I play the second game? I mean, for the story or something? Or is there no point in playing it?
I plan to get SR2 as a digital download from Stardock because it won't have Starforce. I normally buy games on disc, but I'm making an exception to avoid Starforce. It'll probably end up costing me a few dollars more too, but I think it's worth it.

I played SR2 and thought it was pretty good. Didn't know there was an expansion for it though. Is it in English? Maybe I'll have to try it.
SR2 isn't really too hard on your system to play, so hopefully you'll be fine with that extra RAM.
I have the first game (came w/ SR2), but I never bothered to try it out.

I've been meaning to try out SR2:Reboot myself, but last time I checked they didn't allow us Europeans to buy it from them. Also, it's not really compatible with my version of the game, so I'd have to buy the original SR2 too (not that that's that much of a bad thing; the game is amazing and is worth it)..
When I looked at it, it seemed like SR2 + Reboot was a lot more polished than the original non-stardock SR2, which is possibly a good thing seeing as the original game sometimes felt a little rough around the edges (some of the dialogue was confusing.. )
I also got SR1 for free with my SR2, but never really played it, either.. I remember installing it whilst I was playing SR2, tried it for a while, and then just went back to SR2.. I'm guessing SR1 is pretty much SR2 but less polished, less pleasing to the eye, and with a slightly different storyline, though I'm not very sure about that.
EDIT: Gah, I just noticed that they allow the entire world to buy SR2+Reboot off of them.... And that they sold the game for 4 dollars from the 11th through the 14th.. Why do I always miss out on awesome stuff like this? D:

A bit of a bump, but Space Rangers 2 including the expansion pack (Reboot) is now available for 4.74 euros (probably the same in dollars) on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/46330/
Remember, kids. This game is probably the most Star-control like game to appear in the last few years. Also, for some reason only screenshots from the RTS parts of the game are on the Steam store there..
