If you want, I can upload the SC1 & SC2 sprites that timewarp used, because I recently extracted them Smiley

The sprites aren't 3D models, but they would be interesting. We're working on the PNF site right now, and I'd be happy to put them on a page alongside some information on the project.  Shoot me a PM here or on SCDB and let me know.

They are rotated 64 times so for any 2D star control clone they are very interesting.
Unfortunately I don't know who made them (save for the Chmmr which I know was made by Tsing) so I'm not sure about the permissions. But I assume that it's okay to use them in other clones aswell, because timewarp is technically dead anyway.

Hmm, I'll have a chat with Chad regarding permissions, but I don't think it'll be a huge issue to host pictures of them on PNF and have the actual files available for downloading there. But let's move this to PM since I don't want to clutter up a thread about 3D resources with sprite and PNF talk.

Unfortunately, that's not really the way things work.. Tongue
I don't know what license Timewarp's content falls under, but here's an except from credits.txt:
Code:
The Artists (graphics):
        Launchpad
        Kris Hauser (inactive)
        Tsing (inactive)
        Barak Segal (inactive)
        Mangoman (inactive)
        Richardyzo
        Alstar
Launchpad: Clairconctlar, Daktaklakpak, Doog, Exquivan, Harika & Yorn,
Herald, K'tang, Lk, Owa, Ploxis, Vyro-Ingo, Xchagger, Virtao, Terran,
  Phylxan, Narool, Kterbi, Kahr
Kris Hauser: Earthling, Mmrnmhrm, Mycon, Slylandro, Supox, Syreen,
  Thraddash, Umgah, Utwig, Yehat, Zoq-Fot-Pik
Tsing: Chmmr, Melnorme, Kohr-Ah, Shofixti, Ilwrath
Korky: Chenjesu, Ur-Quan, Spathi, VUX
Mango: Pkunk, Druuge, Arilou, Orz, Androsynth
Richardyzo: Zekfahan
orz: Estion

Hmm...
Readme.html says: "Anyone is free to use Star Control: TimeWarp for any purpose. However, be carefull with the SC 1, 2, & 3 stuff, as these have extra legal complications due to the extra parties involved."

License.txt says that Timewarp is distributed under the GPL.

So it could be that the artwork falls under the GPL, then, too, but it might not be. Might still be worth checking out with any of the artists. Hopefully, Tsing should read this thread soon and comment on it, since he tends to lurk a lot. Smiley

How did you extract SC1 images? I was trying to do that at one point...

Use allegro's "dat" tool (for windows: dat.exe in TW's main folder)

...What's dat.exe? Also, there are no .dat files in SC1-DOS.

Here are the high resolution SC1 & SC2 ships:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/115926/ships-rar.html
I also included one image which has the ship pointing north but with a transparency mask over the pink color, for use on websites or for other game development.

CelticMinstrel: We're talking about the SC1 & SC2 ships which were included with timewarp. There are .dat files in timewarp, and you need the allegro tool 'dat.exe' to grab them (or the allegro tool 'grabber', which is more tedious in use).

PS: Lukipela, this isn't just a thread about 3d models, read the OP again Wink.

I think we're thinking of different things... I was thinking of the original Star Control...
