Xbox Live Arcade
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:59:25 pm »

Hello, I really think you should bring this game back to consols. Now is the perfact time to do this, there is Xbox Live Arcade, the Wii arcade and PS3 Arcade all of them great services. Seeing how you can download this game for free for the PC i think it would be a great hit for Consol downloads. I would pay 10 or 15 dollars to download this on one of the consols just so I can play it again sittin back using a controller like it was on the 3DO. I dont see any big legal issues in doing this just maybe a few small fees to get in on the download list. And maybe some time to reprogram the game for Consol play. I really hope you look into this, I would love to play this game again but not on the PC, I have become to lazy...lol Smiley

I just made a post on xbox live forums, and Im going to make one on Nintendo's Wii forums as well.

I intend to get an XBox 360 sometime in the next few months, so if it could be an XBox game I would really love it.

There is an XNA prototype of Super Melee around, being an XNA member, I downloaded it to my 360 and tested it, many, many glitches but the basics of the game worked really well, good, constant framerate and all the ships were included and really well balanced. I hope the person who started it can finish it up.

That project was unfortunately canned by its creator.

It'd be great if Toys for Bob could go the Monkey Island route and remake an HD version of Star Control 2 on top of the existing original one for XBLA. They'd have to rework the interface layout because they way it is now, its not widescreen friendly. Something like this would be nice:

I wish they were able to convince Activision to invest into SC because IMO they could make it as big as Mass Effect if done right. Activision has EA's number on war shooters and music games but they don't have a great sci-fi game afaik.

I think that that would be pretty cool doing that planet lander thing like Mass Effect.

It would be hard to do the space combat with retaining its old feel however.

Agreed, they'd need to do it in the style of X-Wing/Tie Fighter for it to be acceptable in today's gaming context (which is ironic since those games don't exist anymore at a time where they'd probably be more popular than ever-- although Lucasarts is hinting at bringing them back finally)

I also think a modern SC game would have to have some Action/RPG elements ala Mass Effect as well.

The Bioware guys have always said they wanted to do space combat in Mass Effect so I'd expect Mass Effect 3 to be pretty close to what a Star Control game should be (as ME2 doesn't have space combat).

Thats different because all of StarCon was an arcade space shooter. I'm not suggesting the whole game to be like X-Wing/Tie Fighter at all (although the combat in X-Wing/Tie Fighter is not an arcade space shooter, its much better than that). But the only way to do combat well in a modern space sim would have to be in that fashion. Those games are the best space sims ever released so theres nothing wrong in following in their footsteps... for combat.

Let's not forget that the ships in Star Control are NOT fighter-class ships. They only seem that way in melee because of gameplay reasons.
