Help the new guy
« on: November 19, 2002, 04:40:13 pm »

I really enjoyed playing Starcon 3.  I've played it several times and I still find it fun.  Was Starcon 2 as much fun as 3?  I just found out about the soon to be released Starcon 2 for modern OS and I'm pretty excited about it.

I'd like to find out a little about the story line of Starcon 2?   Shocked

Thanks

The Ur-Quan Masters (sc2... shh Wink )is definitely more fun than the 3rd game.  Here is a link to a very good page about the story: http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/sc2/sc2_hist.shtml

Check out the rest of The Pages of Now And Forever, it's awesome!

Just a warning, most people on these boads and sites HATE SC3.

Fortunately, I am not one of them....

They explained a bit of the backstory in the alien conversations in SC3, and the link to that page ought to fill in the gaps.  Its similar in style, but the nuances are very different.

Star Control 3 wasn't HORRIBLE... it just wasn't very good. It doesn't hold a candle to the story and the RPG gameplay in Star Control 2. Star Control 2 sucks you into the story. I mean, I got to the Zoq-Fot-Pik to late and they were all killed. I was genuinely sad :-(

Graphics were pretty nice in SC3, but not spectacular.

Sc2 is sssooooo much better of a game than SC3 could hope to be. Starcon2 was a ton more fun than SC3. But anyway, enjoy SC2. Smiley

My opinion is, that SC3 can be compared to Daikatana, I really, as ErekLich said, *hate* that black sheep of the Star Control saga. Musics were poo, the melee was crappy and it really didn't have a good atmosphere inside the game.

I remember the first time I played. I didn't even bother visiting Rigel or learning about the Zot-Foq-Pik until the Kohr-Ah started their demolition rampage. Then just out of random chance I wandered into their system and found their demolished civilization and I was thinking, "Neat, an abandoned alien city! Nice touch." Hehe, oops.  Tongue

I played SC3 first too... I also thought it was purdy fun at the time. But then I was shown the light of SC2 ... even more fun! Though I gotta say I miss SC3's superior voice acting. Some of SC2's voice acting is *frumple*.

Are you just asking to be quoted out of context? Wink

On a more serious note, I certainly think that SC2 was far better than SC3. That's not to say that SC3 was a bad game. It was a bad Star Control. If it weren't for the totally amazing and perfect-in-every-way game that came before it, many of us here might even like SC3. But as it is, we're too busy liking SC2!

It's neat to see someone that played only Star Control 3 and never SC2...  I'm not surprised that a person in that situation would find SC3 to be a good game.  The problem is that, as a sequel and a Star Control franchise game, it was not up to steam in any way, shape or form.  Doesn't mean I don't appreciate its good points.

Wow, who's ressurecting all these ancient topics off the boards?

Our one and only female memebr I think : ) Kinda gives the nostalgia a rise, don't you think?

Anyway, ICOM, when you've started up SC2, or UQM or whatever we call it nowadays, do tell us what you think. It'd be interesting to hear first impressions from someone who is oplaying SC2 and played SC3 before that....

Yes, that would be me. I apologize if it's point of contention with you all. I filtered through the old threads, seeing if there were any older posts that would still be relevant if I were to offer up my opinion or commentary on them. (e.g. posts that converse about in-game tactics, queries on personal opinions on aspects of the game, etc.)

I had figured it might provide something extra for some of us to chat about, and to chew the fat so to speak. If it's an issue, let me know, and I shall refrain from it from now here on in.

Don't worry about it, I think I speak for most people here when I say we just think it's fun. It certainly brings a smile to my face seeing those things pop up again, I thought they were lost forever. : )

And trust me, if you manage to annoy anyone, you'll notice it pretty quickly. don't take us too seriously though, we (usually) don't mean any harm.
