boned (using the classic sc2 port)

Okay, so I've been playing star control again, after a decade, I just grabbed it from abandonia ( http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/144 ) and am playing it using dosbox. And ... well ... yeah I screwed up. I basically ran out of fuel and am waiting for the traders to show up, meanwhile I've got like 50 ships chasing after me. It's a pretty fun situation.

So my question is two parts

1: Do you guys have any doco as to how to modify the save game files as used in the classic pc version? I tried searching, I found many threads about saved games but nothing concrete (again maybe I overlooked it, if so I apologize)

2: Or, do you feel like defeating 20 incoming Ilwrath while waiting for the trader ship?  Grin

In either case the save game is here, sorry if I put this in the wrong place

Editing the save game to give you more fuel would indeed be possible. I think it's the twelveth through fifteenth byte. Change it to 'c8 00 00 00' to give you 20 fuel, which should be enough to get you out of there.
There is another trick you could use to get out of this situation: if you replace the ilwrath.shp file by the .shp file of some harmless species (say melnorme.shp), you'll meet those aliens of the ilwrath.
