Hello everyone! Almost three years ago I was struck with the desire to whip up some kind of starmap viewer to dig around and, say, rank planets by their mineral yield, and things like that. A few days after one forum post to figure out how to yank the data out of UQM, and once I had the raw data in a database, I ended up losing interest. The data just sat there, lying in wait, hungry for use, for some time. Then two months ago the desire returned to me and I whipped up a very basic viewer, which then fell by the wayside to other interests once again. But the third one stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad.
So, er, after that unnecessary story, here's my map viewer: http://apocalyptech.com/uqm/
It was developed on Linux so certainly works there, and I've verified that it works on Windows (after the installation of a number of prerequisite packages). If anyone's talented with getting UNIXy stuff working on OSX, I'd love to hear if you have any success with it on that platform - I know theoretically the software's supposed to exist, but from what I understand it's pretty tricky.
I've labeled this release "-pre1" since I haven't done terribly extensive testing on it yet. Let me know if you find bugs and I'll get them squared away before releasing an official 1.0.

I just had a quick testing of it before I went to work, and after installing all those python thingies it appears to work correctly on my windows machine! .

Hey all, just a quick note that I've released an "official" 1.0 of this, so that I get it out the door before it gets lost on my HD forever. A few updates from the previous version:
- Quasispace Exits on the starmap
- Constellations can be drawn
- Fixed a bug which prevented it from running from a symlink on Linux
- Visual display options moved to a "View" menu instead of in the sidebar (data filtering functions are still in the sidebar, though)
... so yeah, not a huge release, but there it is. http://apocalyptech.com/uqm/
