The Life and Death of a Pkunk OOC
« on: October 23, 2009, 06:01:27 pm »

Hello and welcome to a new and exciting forum game! This game is called “The Life and Death of a Pkunk” and is a very simple CYOA. At the end of every adventure post, you will be given two alternatives. Choose the one you prefer, and vote for it. I’ll be updating approximately twice a week, assuming at least 4 people vote. The game has a set length and purpose. I won’t tell you what they are, although you might find out during your adventures.

I have actually written this as a complete adventure, so every possible outcome already exists. This means the game can’t really go off the rails, but on the plus side it means it’s fairly easy for me to update. In order to benefit from this, I will be running the game both here and over at the SCDB *Heavy Space* board at the same time. If you’re interested in what outcomes they get, check out their adventure and OOC thread. If you are registered at both forums, you can play at both forums.

While I’m not a moderator here, I’d kindly request that you do your best to follow the rule I’m about to set up. It is there to make it easier for me to read through and update and to make it easier for you to enjoy the game.

1.Any questions and comments about the game should be posted here in the OOC thread, whilst in game responses (votes) and discussion of the various alternatives should be posted in the game thread.

With all that said, why don’t you head over to the game thread, where a young Pkunk is just being woken up.

I've got the feeling that Pkunk dying will be a running gag throughout this game...

This is not completely impossible Smiley Although it depends on the choices you make of course.

Results of first vote are five in favour of alternative 2 and two in favour of alternative 1. Next update will be on Wednesday or Thursday.

This game reminds me very much of that strange literature genre called something like "rpg novels" where you would play a "branching choice adventure" through the book instead of reading it in a classical manner.

I just hope that we will soon see more than just 2 options per update.

Now think about what the first post says, that this is a very basic CYOA. Try to guess where those initials come from. Wink I haven't got time to run a large and involved RPG at the minute. If I did, I'd be continuing ABKS. Instead, you get  a short and light-hearted adventure where each update doesn't require that I write for 30 minutes.

And we are ever grateful Cheesy

As for CYOA, I know very little about them. I went only through one book in my life, and it wasn't mine I borrowed it Tongue

Man, my timing estimates have been horrid with this. despite having it written up, I've still failed to update on time. Sorry about that, work has just been really rough lately.

Eight for option 2, three for option 1. So it goes...

I must say that I'm surprised that both UQMF and SCDB got to the same ending. There were only two of this particular type and there are a lot of other endings. I guess you guys aren't all that different really.  Isn't that a comforting thought? Almost Pkunk-y really.

Anyway, replay launches on Monday if there seems to be interest. Feedback is welcome as well and constructive criticism dearly appreciated.

Game restarted, same rules as before. My track record updating has been atrocious, so I won't even guess when the next update will arrive. Some time during the weekend.
