How did you find out about UQM?
I actually found mine in a CD about classic games that came with a Pc magazine (or something).

While I was playing the DOS version, I read somewhere that there was a version of Star Control II that had voices and different music.  I was on an IRC channel and I asked about it and someone gave me the link to the UQM sourceforge page.

I was a fan of SC2 back in the early 1990s. A few years back,  I was feeling the urge to do some retro gaming. A Google search on where to find a copy of SC2 provided a link to the UQM project.

(Originally, I discovered SC2 through my cousin, who was always trying out new games.)

I used to play Star Control 1 on a Sega emulator quite a bit when I was a kid and I liked it. Later on, I was looking through games on some abandonware site and there I found Star Control 2.  I actually played that version long before playing UQM. Come to think of it, I never finished the game in UQM, only in SC2

More or less the same, although it was my brother who originally got me into SC2 in the 90s, as well as discovered UQM later on.

My DOS version disks were corrupted years ago and I couldn't reinstall that version anymore. So I looked up SC2 on Abandonia, and it linked to UQM. I've never wanted for an SC2 fix since.  Smiley

I first discovered Star Control at a friend's house in Switzerland, several years ago. Then, next time I visited that friend (no longer in Switzerland though), I saw it again, and even played it a little. So, when I got home, I looked it up and discovered this.

I replayed my DOS version of SC2 about every second year or so. But one year I couldn't find the starmap, so I set out to find a replacement image. PNF linked me to TimeWarp and this place.

I never did find my starmap Sad

I went to a DDR (dance dance revolution) event in another city. They organized an UQM tournament there as a bonus activity. I liked how the game worked and downloaded it when I got back home. Here I am.

When TFB announced that they would release the source code of SC2, Chris Nelson, then intern at TFB, asked on the PNF for help reverse engineering some of the 3DO file formats. I helped out, and was one of the first people outside of TFB (if not the first) to get his hands on the source code. We decided to go with "UQM" as it was the subtitle for the original Star Control, and which was not trademarked by (then) Infogrames. I do not recall exactly how and where the decision to name it UQM was made, but there was really no contest.

And that's how I found out about UQM.
