Natural Timeline?
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:26:14 am »

Hi. I'm replaying StarControl and I have a problem. The first time I played StarControl, I made notes all over the map on the info I was getting.
This time, early in the game I forgot to write things down. So I keep checking my OLD notes.

Problem is, now I'm doing shit out of sequence. I kind of want to follow a natural "storyline" for the game, but I don't knwo what I'm supposed to know at this point.
Does anyone have a list of what information you get and when ? Like: What does the starbase commander tell you first off. What does the Melnorme tell you, and in what order?

I looked at one of the walkthrough onlike, but one has me running off to meet the Pkunk, and the other has me chasing the Orz right away, which seems out of sequence.
(Isn't the first thing that happens supposed to be the Spathi and the Zoq-Fot-Pik? )

I don't believe there is a natural time line. It's a space exploration game where you can progress in any order you want.

Yes there is a natural timeline, in fact Star control 2 is much like real life.
You start out close to your relatives, knowing nothing and having no friends, the choices you make in between are your own and can be made in any order, but just as you start unraveling the secrets of life the Kohr ah are there to take you away.

The whole point of the open-middled game is that you can do things in whatever order you like. While the Spathi are an obvious strting point, the Melnorme will give you all sorts of different info depending on which info category you're purchasing from. Besides that, Hayes gives you generalized regions of space to check for all of your old allies and enemies, so there are lots of different leads you can follow without feeling like you're "breaking sequence."

Ahahaha that is true and depressing. Well done!

Anyway, I agree with Draxas. While some events need to be performed after each other, you can mostly do things in whatever order you like. There's no natural timeline, and I bet if we compared the track record here, you'd find plenty of different preferred ways of solving it.

I disagree; there is a natural way: you do things after you learn about them.
I'd suggest that the OP throws away their notes and starts over, with just the information that the original star map and the intro sequence give.
