ASIDE from SC3 itself, I have to say the name of the Ilwrath ship.  Avenger?  Come on, shouldn't it be something like "Torturer" or "Armageddon"?

They're an admittedly evil race of religious zealots, who worship pain, torture, and... well... evil.  Avenger sounds like it should've been used as a new design from one of the old league races.

What if the Ilwrath are the pkunk-like offshoot of another race?  Can you say "Kor-ah wannabe?"

Umgah Drones, i guess. The Umgah specialize in bio-technology, but  they don't really apply such technology in a Drone.. afterall, its just machinery (from what we see).

Not a very good fighting machine, anyways, but still a machine nonetheless.

I'd have to say it's the fact that the Kohr-Ah and Kzer-Za managed to discover so many races all over the quadrant and destroy/enslave all of them, and yet they totally missed the Zot-Foq-Pik which have been sitting in their backyard for the last twenty years.

Then again, they might've dismissed them as non-sentinent life forms, which also explains why there's actual life forms still left on Arcturus and its moon.

Though that's another point of argument I have. I don't imagine it's particularly easy to shift out sentient and non-sentinent life from each other when you're conducting orbital bombardment. Why *did* the Kohr-ah leave so many planets with life on them? It's not like a clever race couldn't find a way to camoflauge themselves amongst the other life forms on the planet. Not to mention it might be a pain to have to return when said life forms reach sentience.

Then again, I suppose Kohr-Ah live to cleanse. Leaving non-sentient life alive is a way of ensuring that they have something left to do in several million years, I suppose.

Well, they do *shudder* plaster the insides with living tissue. Though I admit, a ship with biological capabilities would be rather interesting. I could imagine some sort of biological equivalent to VUX limpets, Mycon regeneration, or Chenjesu DOGIs... (though the last are mechanical and not biological--they still give off disturbing screams upon obliteration).

You mean they're leaving themselves something to do for the next time they come around? now that is a scary thought. It'd also make them more twisted than before, I mean they'd be making sure that their campaign of darkness and destruction NEVER ended... A race spendfing an eternity conducting genocide. That is a horrible thought. "There is no rest, only the cleansing" The poor things.

it would be intersting to know how the Kohr-Ah define sentience though. maybe something like "All tool using creatures", adapted to creatures who don't use tools somehow...

YAY!!! I'M ENLIGHTENED! Now I can truly feel smug.

Maybe, but then the Zebranky would have to be sentient, and didn't the Zoq-Fots say they weren't? They used primative tools to hunt down the Zoqs-Fot-Piks a while ago, I heard somewhere it was the same time as the 1st docturnal war. they should have been killed or enslaved if they were sentient.

Well, only they were on the other side of the galaxy during the Doctrinal war. Also, while the ZFP may not have considered them sentient, or didn't want to since that would mean they committed genocide, they still might have been.

You know this is beginning to sound a whole lot like SC3 now.

But they don't EAT sentience, they just don't trust it.

It's not a dietary thing for the Kohr-Ah, no. And while those-who-belong-to-a-game-that-should-not-be-mentioned ONLY eat sentient life, or feast, or whatever, I'd guess that the Kohr-Ah probably kills anything that looks remotely bright, just to be on the safe side. Really primitive lifeforms might be safe, but I'd guess that anything that resembles inteligence, or looks like it might become intelligent will probably end up getting hit by a huge spinning shuriken.

In our ancient past, four species evolved intelligence on our homeworld. Simultaneously.  They were the Zoq the Fot the Pik and the Zebranky.
-Zoq, Fot, or maybe Pik

No mention of timescale, and I think they didn't have tools until after the Firey Wheel incident.  The ZFP are fairly unapologetic about their ancestor's genocide, like we homo sapiens sapiens are about our ancestor's possible genocide of related hominids.

Well, even if we/they feel bad that it HAPPENED, it's a little late to feel sorry FOR it, if you get the distinction.

I *do* feel sorry and bad for the Neanderthals, though.
Even considering that the former is present tense and the latter is past tense.

*sighs and puts away them darned Jean M. Auel books*

Yeah, they always made you feel kind of bad about the clan, didn't they...

I always found then Mycon a bit weird as well. I mean, these are people who can barely say one coherent sentence without losing themselves, a race that infrequently recalls programming instructions. in other words, they're a conplete mess. So how come they can make quick decisions in the heat of battle without consulting their ancestral memories?

(Yes i know, there are tons of not so good, good and awesome explanations for this one, but it's one of the things that I found really weird when I started playing the game. How the hell, I said to myself, did these fellas ever manage a gravity whip? they are insane! Perhaps, but insane like a fox...)

Oh yes. I refuse to read those books on the basis that they depress me far too much.

I imagine that once Juffo-Wup floods their bodies, their insanity turns into a benefit. You have to be pretty damn insane to take what's basically the equivalent of a canteloupe into a potentially deadly orbit around a planet.

Sometimes they ARE a complete mess even in combat though, running into their own plasmoids like Talana put it.

Crazy like a fox! Give back our lemon tree!
