I messed up my UQM!
« on: May 11, 2010, 02:38:51 am »

OK, I'm a completely computer newb, so i'm SURE this is going to be an incredibly stupid question, but whatever.
I made this account entirely to ask this question of you guys: When I first downloaded the open source UQM off this site, the voices didn't work (everything else was fine). That was okay for a while, but then I beat it and wanted to play with the voices in, so i screwed with the sound a bit, and ended up messing it up, and it won't run, i think i tried selecting a driver that I don't have or something. It says to run it with the --sound=none option, but without being able to get into the game, I don't know how to do this. Once i get into the game I can change it back to normal I assume, so at least i can play again, albeit without the voices. So my question is how do I run UQM with the no sound option if I can't get into the game to change the settings?
Also, if anyone knows off the top of their head why the voices wouldn't work, that'd be awesome to fix that too.
I apologize if the answer is somewhere on these forums but I did look (pretty half-assed i admit) and didn't find anything.

Still need help w/ this, i did more searching and found other people have had this problem, but when i look to find where my UQM settings are, the application data folder is not there, and i don't know how to reveal it if it is hidden.
also i don't fully understand how to make the voice volume normal as opposed to 0, which is what i assume the problem was before i started screwing with the sound
basically i need it explained to me as if you were talking to a 5 year old, i'm really dumb when it comes to this stuff.

I think this link will help: http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/The_Ur-Quan_Masters_Technical_FAQ#Where_are_my_settings_stored.3F.

i found that before but it wasn't until just now that i figured out how to show the hidden app data folder... stupid folder windows don't have a tools menu, i had to go through windows help.
anyway i found it now, but how do i actually change the settings? I can't open any of the files.
edit: i figured how to open them, hehe, but there doesn't seem to be a line called sound that i can modify to say none. i'll keep looking but if anyone sees this before i update it to say i figured it out, give me a hand.

Just delete the config file, and it will be recreated with the default settings.
