What is it that you think is spoilage? The spheres of influence?

Specifically the ones labeled "Unknown," which are big hints on finding races that you shouldn't even know exist.

those labels were on the original map aswell...

This suggests another option: allow the player to toggle the in-game map between "2133" and "current" modes (differing only in the spheres of influence shown).
This idea I like. I was actually going to suggest putting the map in-game as a special item, but this idea may be even better.

One thing, though... it'd be nice to also be able to toggle constellation joining.
