Hi all.
I'm still doing some work on the voice clean up mod and would like to know what sound sets you'd like me to start out with. As each of these take some time and - let's face it - some are more important / valueable to get done sooner than other sets (*cough* talking pet *cough*), I'd like to prioritize.
Any input on this matter is appreciated.

I'd say, the people who are most useful in terms of in-game information. That puts Commander Hayes at 1 and the Melnorme at 2 for certain.

Indeed.
One might also consider how early on in the game a voice appears at first (first impressions last etc) and how badly a voice is in need of a shape-up (Spathi and Shofixti have always struck me as annoyingly harsh and noisy).

Agreed. I'd say top priority is Hayes, Melnorme, Spathi, and Ilwrath, in that order. You'll be talking to the first two constantly throughout the game, and the second two pop up in the intro quest. Of course, this means you'll be getting the two most talkative folks done first; if you haven't finalized your technique, it may be worthwhile to start on someone with less dialog so that there's not as much work to redo them if you make changes later and want to bring them back in line. Supox and Shofixti would be useful for that purpose, with their fairly minimal dialog.

Thanks for the input. It's not as much as the technique not being in place but rather that is has to be adapted and tested for each voice. The more extreme voices require special settings. It seems as if they have used two or more recording facilities and different reverbs et cetera which also poses a challenge. I will post a sample of a finished voice pack soonish.
Another matter to consider is personal affection. Seriously. If you like it, maybe other will as well, no?
I went for Spathi, Arilou, Utwig, Mycon, and Probe, mostly because I just like those ones. I'd say, the people who are most useful in terms of in-game information. That puts Commander Hayes at 1 and the Melnorme at 2 for certain.
Based on this criteria, I might point out the Mycon and their lack of homeworld information. I have heard about the issue and tried the cleaned up rendering (which did sound very well). But if I should include something like that or not - well, I'd say it's for the dev team to decide. In any case these two projects are not conflicting in any way.

Forgive me for being ignorant, but are you just retouching the old voices or actually recording new ones?
If the latter, please ensure the "missing" dialogue from the DOS build gets included in your new packs so the game can hopefully be complete again =) Also, I agree with otehr posters regarding priority. Hayes and the Melnorme NEED to sound good considering how often you talk to them. Making sure the Ur-Quan (Kzer-Za) sound good would also be high priority to me as they are the big bad, at least for the first part of the game.

What's the status of this voice cleanup effort? I listened to the samples when they were first posted, and the voices sounded much clearer; it'd be great to get them in. However, the link to them has gone dead.
