playing with voice acting on is a crime against sc2. never ever do it. the graphics, text, the talking style in dialogue gives more character than a hired voice mimicking actor can give, to the aliens.
I disagree. While the voices admittedly have their flaws, they are not this all-corrupting entity that you and some other people make them out to be. Can you listen to them and honestly tell me that the Ilwrath and Thraddash voices are not simply magnificent? Also, you should listen some time as Fwiffo discusses the "Ultimate Evil". The voice acting nailed that line at least, don't you think? (Actually, due to the breathing noises in the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za voice acting I was initially under the impression they had abnormally small lungs, thus causing them difficulty while speaking, but that is another story) actually i say they are that all-corrupting entity that we make it to be.
it is only evident during long sessions. if you play with sound off, (preferably with pc version), over the long hours you will see that your subconscious starts to draw pictures of the characteristics of the aliens, from what they say, their history, and their responses.
in long term, this is much more a vivid picture than any picture that is tainted/overwritten by voice acting. humans are psychologically conditioned to give more credence to sound, voice, the way a person talks, then the content of what's said, the goings on and whatnot. this is only natural.
and since no voice actor is actually an alien, there is no way they could correctly and precisely vocalize an alien culture.

I admit that I had a mental "image" of what the various aliens would sound like after years of playing only the DOS version, which in many cases was quite different from what the actual voiced dialog sounded like. The Utwig are the most significant example in that regard. Does that mean I think the voice acting is universally terrible? Not a chance. Some of the voices are quite well done despite the amateur VAs used. Is the SC2 voice acting universally better than the SC3 voice acting? Again, no. I prefer the SC3 Orz, just as Novus said, and some of the other voices were also very good (the K'tang stand out here).
Do I ever play with sound off? No way, the sound is too good to miss. Do I still have a different perception of what I would have those voices sound like? You bet, but it doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the game.

How do you explain talking pet(device)'s voice then? His speech is fast, and the diffrence in tone is significant. And how do you explain the diffrence between Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah voice if all theese three speeches are spoken by talking pets? It's confusing. Also, talking pets aren't so tiny actualy. While they might associate you with frogs, the neo-Dynarri says their size is close to Earth dogs. Woff! Woff! However I never believed much of what this little dipshit said.

I solve this apparent contradiction with the same reason some people find the Kohr-Ah scarier than the Kzer-Za. Simply, the Kzer-Za aim to be as intimidating as possible. Their strident, blaring voices, coupled with their terrifying appearance, would have caused widespread terror when they first arrived, and I'd guess this puts a lot of strain on the Talking Pet. Of course, when you're Zelnick, cruising around the galaxy in a starship capable of killing approximately everything, you tend not to be impressed by that sort of thing. In contrast, the Kohr-Ah are calm and collected. They still have that deep voice, but I guess the deepness is just a side-effect of interpreting the will of the Ur-Quan.

From a storytelling perspective, I most appreciate the Orz. It's a testament to TFB that a race of goofy race of parrotfish-looking things left me too frightened to sleep for a few nights (Poor Bukowski). It's frustrating as hell that the Arilou never gave more answers about the Orz and other interdimensional Lovecraftian horrors, but I imagine they wanted to set up a plot point for a sequel.
Just because of their awful 3DO voice, I find the Utwig intolerable. I actually don't much care for the Spathi either. On top of their cowardice, they're extremely petty and self-centered.

I have noticed many people complaining about the Utwig voice. It is annoyng indeed. But...awful??? You don't know the meaning of the word "awful"! You haven't heard the story about SC3 Chmmr voice! It is so awful that I can't stand it! There are voice acts of a few races in SC3 which sound good, but they are minority. SC3 obviously had a terrible actors who recorded it's voices.

From all races I liked Thraddash the most. The first time I met them they appeared so powerful and mighty, and then they explained how the ancient Culture Three hacked their limbs off to frighten their enemies! Conversations with the Thraddash are the best in the game in my opinion, but I also liked Druuge and especially their contract with their god.
Only race I didn't like was Supox, because they seemed to lack character. I found them quite boring.

Yeah, the Thraddash are certainly the best. The part where they decribe their invention of their Reeunk Afterburner is absoulutely awesome. I would also like to add that I really like to use Torch ships in SuperMelee; they aren't too strong, but if used wisely they can become serious threat to almost any ship. The only thing I don't like on Torch is it's main gun which is too weak. It's wierd since it fires much larger projectiles than Scout, Eluder, Fury, Stinger and Terminator do. It would be just more logical if they killed 2 crew members per shot instead of only one.

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Putting forth the Thraddash main weapon as an example of 'fun' doesn't exactly help your case.
