So, I was just imagining - what if the team to Vela wasn't a HUMAN team, but another alliance member instead?

We'd probably want to move Fwiffo to the outer planet of the home system, no matter which it ends up being.

Let's see -
Syreen. Hrm. As Talana informs us in the real SC2, the Syreen are better off slave shielded there than they were before... So a lot more of the plot might simply involve trying to get support from home... And of course, your massive crushing love interest will be Cmmdr Hayes, who I believe (though I'm not exactly the right one to judge) is decently hunky.

Shofixti. Well, this would change the plot considerably since we'd have the yehat pretty quick - unless, of course, all of the crew was male. But then how would you have been born? Maybe a blast of radiation sterilized everyone? Maybe the slylandro probe that struck before the beginning killd them all? Anyway, can you seriously imagine the Shofixti on a scientific mission? And then there's the problem of no starbase.

Mmrnhrm. This seems to me to be the easiest. Just a slight modification to the stuff we find at Vela, so it's capable of making more Mmrnhrm. But Procyon is in the middle of Ilwrath space, and surrounded... maybe move the Ilwrath over to Sol instead?? I am highly amused by the Talana dialogue if your main character is Mmrnhrm. Changes are likely to be needed there...

Chenjesu. Much like Mmrnhrm, but different dialogue. And your starting ship is pretty sick(i.e. too powerful) for the early game...

Arilou. HAHAHAHAHA no.

Yehat. Having been absent from the change of sides, you refuse to accept the Queen's decision. The question becomes, where is your starbase?

... also, we could have the Androsynth. You were sent out AFTER the war... contact is lost. You try to return to Vulpeculae, but are attacked by the Orz (instead of a slylandro probe)... and back to Earth it is, on a long-luck gamble.
Why in this case would the Ur-Quan slave-shield Vela? Hrm....

In the Androsynth case, maybe the Orz got to Vela first? Assimilated it or whatever? You try to return, but there's nothing there, just an empty planet. Anyone you send down freaks out and disappears...

The real enjoyment would be to play as an Umgah, struggling to liberate your fellow pranksters from the ahrsh rule of the Ur-Quan. due to the delicate nature of your mission, a starbase has been set up for you in nonclaimed space....

Umgah Starbase Commander : "thsoe are very good minerals Captain! How many new legs would you like? HAR HAR HAR!"

I'd like to play from the PoV of the... MELNORME!
Yes, coddle an AI-controlled flagship through to victory over the Kohr-Ah and Ur-Quan, all while driving a hard bargain. But in this version, he will FAIL at the last moment.
You will need to use all the information you gathered from rainbow worlds and lifeforms to devise a psionic pacifier to take the place of the talking pet, and a Rainbow Infusion to render the Sa-Matra from very dangerous purple Great Trophy into a highly harmless tie-dyed Great Trophy. Ally with the Chmmr, and send a horde of reprogrammed self-replicating drones in the path of the Kohr-Ah as they try to wipe out the Supox and Utwig.
Apply your knowledge of alien lifeforms to repair the Mycon, or bend them to your will (though their ship may not be effective against the Kohr-Ah, they may have SOME utility...). Mend fences with your rivals the Druuge as their self-interest is threatened. Threaten to remove the slave shield on Spathiwa unless they provide a few starships.
...
or not
...
More seriously,
Play as a VUX admiral who intercepts a Kohr-Ah communique and decides he must save all life... even if it means cooperating with the vile Humans (and Syreen - GACK!). Naturally, few of your brethren will continue to follow you under these circumstances. Ally with the Mycon to preserve the flow of Juffo-Wup, and try to keep the Syreen from finding out about Syra.
And more importantly, get some SPEED UPGRADES for your flagship!

maybe play as an Ilwrath Heretic, cast out because you claim that the Umgah are behind Channel 44. While travelling miserably through space you come upon an Kohr-Ah Marauder, and narrowly manage to defeat it.

Seeing as you want to liberate your people from false gods and stop the Kohr-Ah, you make an alliance with a race that you have had close ties with for many centuries. The Arilou! They supply you with a limited amount of resources, and an old starbase they surprisingly tow out of Quasispace....

Play as the Slylandro and be bored on your gas giant for 70 billion years until some guy in a ship shows up, chats a bit, then leaves. Then wait some more!

Or you could be a Mycon who found Vela, but being too stupid to comprehend the purpose of the precursor vehicle site, you destroyed it. You'll have amazing conversations with other races such as this little gem:

Mycon: Help me spread Juffo-Wup.
VUX: Screw you.
Mycon: No really, we need your help! Juffo-Wup is important!
*The VUX commander cuts transmission and flies away*
Mycon: Noooo! Come back!

Play as the Arilou, doibng loads of VERY interesting stuff and really deciding everything that happens in the universe. As a side effect, every time you leave the game you can't remember any of it, to protect you from being *smelled* and *seen*. Comes with a free Arilou deoderant stick.

How about this; in Vela you find a mini-Sa-Matra-factory! the planet has enough resources to create a hundred MSa-Matra's! but that has to be enough, because YOU must captain the fleet and return to Earth!

And when you have, you update on the events, and decide you want a part in the Doctrinal War as well!
What part would the Earthlings play if they had the power of the Sa-Matra? Wink hmmmmmm sounds tempting..

I wonder what kind of deoderant the androsynth used?

Obviously the wrong one. They were *smelled*. That's why you need the arilou stuff.

heheh

this could make a good commercial

/arilou speaker/
"ALL NEW! our special deoderant! Perfect for making that darn *smell* invisible!"

/earthling speaker/
"I've used the new derilou and today those pesky Orz can't *sniff* me at all! I'm so *happy*! you don't even need to shower!"

/arilou speaker/
"Our tests show that 100% of all Androsynth who incidentally DIDN'T use our family-sized derilou *smelled* so bad, they *squeezed* the *juice*! Don't be a 'synth. Buy derilou today!"

Unless you wanted to play it from Tanaka's point of view. Your Shofixti Scout would have unlimited fuel...and it would actually be rather interesting as the 'weakest' member of the Alliance manages to free all the other races from Ur-Quan slavery! You'd even have a different end goal in mind (I imagine the Sa-Matra would just be a side task) and that would be facing down Admiral Zex! But the guy would be well rewarded for his heroic mission, after he made his way to the surface and rescued the 'damsels in distress'. *laughs* You could even have a deus ex machina where your long lost brother Katana reappears and saves your life at a crucial moment by means of using the Glory Device/Divine Wind.

Another note: You guys are seriously insane. Bloody hilarious too might I add. Especially the bit about the Umgah base commander.

I always like the idea of playing as an Ur-Quan.

Back in the day, when timewarp development was in its primetime, we had an idea for a  new single player storyline.

You would play as an Ur-Quan, and the time period would be back in the Sentient Milelu days.

You would have to survive the perils of the galaxy and extra sidequests e.t.c
But ultimately the main quest would be to free your people from the dynarri..
