Stop trivialising it!  This is serious. You may be looking forward to regularly frolicking in sun-bathed meadows, but some of us who live just a hundred metres inland have waterfront views in prospect, doubling our house prices overnight! I think you mean house values. Or don't you own your own home? In that case, capitalistically speaking, you don't deserve a home because you haven't accrued enough worth. Besides, you can hardly see stars from the seafront, shouldn't you bee in the mountains somewhere?  
Hey Zeratul! I thought you left the forum. Let's just say the occurrence of my leaving the forum is about as likely as the Ur-Quan are to become Supox-hugging hippies, donate the Sa-Matra to charity, and abandon the Path of Now and Forever.
We're missing you in the other thread, please come back and reply.
I might, later, depending on how constructive I perceive the discussion to be. I will definitely need to see some diversity in opinions, though.

Why do you need other people to share their opinions in order to defend yours? Ummm... Morale..? What can I say, I can get discouraged if I'm "debating" with a mountain of people whose stances on the matter are all opposite to mine. It's something psychological, I suspect. At that point, I lose my will to continue.  If it was just myself versus one other person, that'd be fine, but I felt quite overwhelmed by the opposition.
So if you feel your stance on an issue is correct, but you're in the minority, then you can't discuss it? It looks like if you had a good arguement, it wouldn't matter how many people opposed it, it'd still be a good arguement. Is your morale low because the other side's argument doesn't make any sense and is frustrating you, or because it's a good one?
As far as I'm concerned, it's a debate as long as both sides are presenting valid arguements and counterpoints and such, and stops being a debate when it degenerates to personal attacks. It didn't really seem like either side was getting personally attacked at all. Why do you feel the need to put "debating" in quotes?

Dogpiling is still bad form. Perhaps if we were to clear out an arena where there were a limited number of participants... I remember an experiment of doing that on the Sluggy Freelance boards several years ago. The debates were a modest success, but it stopped because the others felt excluded.

I mostly agree with what he's saying, but (as I suspect is the case for a lot of other people) am not about to get involved in a political discussion, in my experience it never ends well.

Bout the same, i suppose. seems like less topics are being posted in, but the few that are are moving faster. Well, probably the slightest bit slower, overall. It's to be expected though.
