A few months back I did a large scale review of Star Control 2 for my youtube show The Retro Check. It is a game I truly love....Star Control 3 not so much.....So I have decided since i am about to celebrate my 10th show (Yeah i didn't think I'd last that long either ) and since youtube no longer is limiting the amount of time a video can be, I am doing a large scale review of Star Control 3 and why it destroyed the childhood dreams of all the Star Control 1 and 2 fans.
Only thing is....i am having trouble getting it running again. I have two computers. One is a Dual Core using windows XP and the other is a quad core running windows 7. I am having only partial success with both machines. Anyone suggest which will be the better one to focus towards?
Also I'd love to get some fans to give their two cents on this. (I'd like to open the video up with "So how do the fans of SC2 feel about SC3?" and read a few off to set the mood for the review). So if you'd like to get a sentence or two read off for the review and get your name in the video, please post something here or pm it to me.
Ripping apart the first game to ever disappoint me so heavily......this is going to be fun

DOSBox may be your only option, that was the way I had to go to relive my memory of it back when I had XP.
I honestly don't have any qualms with SC3. I played it like I was playing any other game, beat it and let it go. The only thing I can find any distaste towards was the gameplay, buggy as hell.
Other than that, it was entertaining and held my attention long enough for me to beat it. Which I can not say for most of the recent games that have come out.
I was "lucky" enough to finish it the first time around. All of my subsequent tries were unsuccessful, because the game logic broke. My main problem with the game was reusing text from SC2 and the horrible horrible elevator music everywhere. The ending video didn't help either.
The music was a big gripe for me too but the biggest was that ungodly, impossible to understand map screen that would have the name of the stars overlap each other. (I remember it taking me 45 minutes one time to find the system I was looking for. )
I actually have the CD version of the game that was designed for windows 95. Dos box doesn't run it any better then the standard windows. (My real problem has been constant crashing after the game loads)
