I want to explore the game without worrying about the time limit, but I'd still like the game to progress as it is supposed to at some point. I see the links for the mods a few posts down, but wonder about which would be better? I am thinking the de-cleansing mod would be better?
Also, is there a way or a mod to make the colors for the materials you pick up easier to differentiate? Thanks

Well using the time mod you would have to wait longer for time to progress so it may take a while and be inconvenient when you're waiting for time scripted events to occur. So I guess the de-cleansing mod would be better, however then you wouldn't be able to experience the Ur-Quan cleansing without waiting a very long time.

Thanks. If I use the De Cleansing mod and get far into the game, at some point can I discontinue use of the exe for that mod and begin re using the original exe? Will the game then pick up where I would have been in a modless game? That's a pretty heavy thought, but maybe possible?

Fot or not?

The time at which the Kohr-Ah cleansing starts is stored in the save game, so switching back to the original UQM executable will not change the time back; you need to start a new game for that. Apart from some minor differences in dialogue with the Zoq-Fot-Pik (when they warn about the Kohr-Ah being about to win depends on whether you're using the mod or not), it doesn't matter whether you use the modded or original UQM executable.
