Dream voice casting
« on: May 02, 2011, 02:09:38 am »

Say that fate favors us and the Deific Duo are allowed to make a new game-in this scenario, a remake of Star Control 2; and that they have the resources to spurge on swanky stuff. For example their choice of all star voice actors.

And you get to choose the voice actors and roles

Pick your actors and role. Include: name, previous roles, a youtube link as an example, possible casting choices in this theoretical game and any comments; in that order.

My choices:
Peter Jessop
Mass Effect-Sovereign
Dragon age-Valendrian/Lord Ronus Dace/Paivel/Old Tegrin/Cocky Dwarf Male/Fade Beresaad/Fade Dwarf/Dwarven Soldier/Haven Villager/Circle Tower Templar/Dane's Refuge Patron/Fade Mage/Redcliffe Old Man/Orzammar Grey Warden/Dust Town Beggar/Orzammar Royal Guard

Roles-Chmmr
           -Khor-ah
           -Lander Report

David Shaughnessy

Mark Meer

Role-Starbase Commander Hayes
"I am Starbase Commander Hayes and this is my favorite hierarchy resupply vessel."

Bruce Leyland
Star Control 2-Yehat

Role-Yehat
"Too awesome the first time to pass up. Give him some formal training in voice acting and put him in again"

Larry Zee
Star Control 2-
Ur-Quan Kzer-Za
Umgah
Melnorme

Role- Ur-Quan Kzer-Za
"Wonderful the first time. Computer work will improve it. Have the Talking Pet inhale like a diseased pig with every sucking inhalation. "

Jennifer Hale
Mass effect, Female Shepard

-Ur-Quan Khor-ah
-Lander Report
"Possible alternate actor. It might be interesting to see how the Khor-ah's lines work when delivered by a female voice.  Besides, the surprise for returning players would be great."

Thomas Baker
4th Doctor, Hostile Waters: Antaeus rising (Narrator)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwSJG_ZpikA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XWkA0243C4
-Narrator
"This game could have a boot-up animation and a seperate start game video, as is fairly standard these days. Something like a 3.5-minute video depicting the events leading up to the war, the discovery of the Unzervault Shipyard ending with the launch of the Vindicator. The start game animation would cover the rest of the journey described in the manual up to the arrival at Earth. It would be very fitting to have it be narrated by the voice of the 4th doctor."

Personally, I'd still go for no voices.

There'd be a choice in options to turn it off.

I'd leave the original voices: being used to play Star Control II without -of course- voices, to play UQM with the 3DO ones was a shock for me. The Ilwrath, the Kohr-Ah, the Ur-Quan, and the Druuge (just to mention three) voices were, simply put, awesome. I didn't like some of them -I imagined a more parrot-like voice for the Orz, since they've a beak, and the Yehat lose a bit of what they're without the AWK!, BRAAK!, etc.-, but overall actors did a great job.
