This is a question that has been bugging me lately. What is the Starbase Commander's nationality? The only thing I can tell for sure is that he is a male human, and he hails from the planet Earth. But we don't all come from the same country! He has to have come from some country on Earth, but his uniform does not suggest any particular one.

He could be American. Then again, assuming he's American would be daft. Maybe he's British?

That may be, but the way people speak changes over time. Accents around the globe are slowly being Americanized. Who's to say Hayes isn't an immigrant who adopted American speech patterns over time?

Even if he is American as you say, that leaves a lot of his backstory absent. How did he gain the skills necessary to get him where he is now? Did he have contacts on Earth? What is that green insignia on his shirt? These are important subjects that deserve to be explored in detail!

Unfortunately the English part of the family vanishes after the move to Ireland and no longer has any ties in England

Hayes is the English translation from O' Hea which have been given back to his family during the 17th to 18th centuries when it was common for immigration to give new families a more Americanized name. It also means his original roots would have been Irish

Combination of School, internet and caffeine

He did but lost them when he was moved to the starbase so he had surgery done to correct his vision

It's green......that's what it is....you couldn't see that? Though if you look in small print below it is says made in China

I don't think you are correct - he is squinting, so he obviously have not had the surgery and would still require contacts... Which he can't afford.

In the SC2 verse, isn't Detroit the center of spacecraft manufacture?

It seems more likely than not that Hayes is American.

That's because his view screen is badly focused and he never got it fixed. I mean you would be forced to squint too if your view screen had been ruined by too many funroms
