Well, their skepticism is well-founded. But if neutrinos turn out to be tachyons, that would be really welcome for several reasons.

1) FTL! Obviously, even if it can't be used to move us and may be impractic

2) It means we can stop wasting our time with string theory.

In the mean time, keep your expectations in check.
