Hey guys. I'm brand new to Star Control, just downloaded The Ur Quan Masters today. I hear this game is pretty good and am pretty excited for an old fashioned space adventure! Anyway, the installer gives me 3 options for different eras of music. My question to all you experts is which do you prefer?
For right now I'm picking the 3DO version since its a middle ground between both old and new. I hear the 3DO version has a couple instances of the old pc music, I am a fan of bleepy old computer music and mod trackers (I like Unreal and some demoscene stuff and Deus Ex has probably my favorite soundtrack ever), but the only few samples of the PC music I could find were rather spartan and bland (except for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqzEpE4xZCw which was quite nice), so I guess a whole game like that wouldn't sound that good. And I dont know anything about what the original music sounds like so I'll save the modern remixes for a later playthrough if I like the game. So I'm goin with 3DO.
But this isnt about me... which of these do _you_ prefer? In the poll options I let people vote 2 times, in case you have a hard time making up your mind pick your two favorites or just vote twice

Remixes all the way. Actually, I think I still need to find out how to get those to work on the Pandora... hopefully it's possible without modifying the PND.

The Precursor remixes are great, but noting triggers my nostalgia button like the original MODs. It's universally excellent music, too; I think the 3D0 music is my least favorite of the 3 options, actually.

That's the thing: I don't suffer from the disease known as nostalgia, since I first played SC2 in the form of The Ur-Quan Masters 0.6.2 on Linux. Actually, I don't suffer from nostalgia at all; there's nothing to be nostalgic about. Maybe I'll suffer from nostalgia later on, remembering the good ol' days when I wasn't nostalgic. (Hey, I smell irony!)

We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

If the music is set up so it doesn't start from the beginning each time, I'd go with remixes. Or if you're mainly going to be traveling long distances in HS. But if you're in Hyperspace for less than 32 seconds, you won't even hear the first note of the theme. That's my only quibble.

Fading in to a random point in the song would be fine too.

My personal favourite music option: Winamp playing all versions of Hyperspace, minus Across The Galaxy.
Currently listening to Re-enter Mix now.
