Origin of the Spathi name
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:28:58 pm »

I find out σπαθί is Greek for sword, pronounced Spathi.  I read a little about how other races' names were inspired by Greek.

I'm fairly certain this is intentional, and it is quite ironic, the meaning of Spathi,  Grin

I'm betting on it being accidental. I mean, why "sword"? For ironic purposes there would be much better words. Besides, the Spathi are pretty good fighters, when pressed.

True, the Spathi ships are one of my favorite.   You're right, sword is not the best irony.  Oh well.  Still would be a pretty neat coincidence.   Tongue

I 'heard' one of the races was inspired by some movie about a football agent.
