presenting myself...
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:28:21 pm »

Hello to everyone!

I would like to say "I'm an old SC2 fan" like most of you, but that's not true - I knew UQM just from 1 year from the Debian (linux) repositories and... it was such a hard game to me, wasn't understanding what I had to do...
Then I read here and there and learnt about the Star Control universe Smiley

Even with my new knowledge, I confess I still have never completed the SC2 single-game... I'm working on it! And to train myself in melee fights, yesterday I had my first netmelee fight. How it went? Good... of course my opponent (oldlaptop) cleansed my fleet, but I have had a lot of fun and learnt about the potential of various ships I was ignoring.

I'm happy to partecipate in this forum and to discuss about things with you!

Welcome daedalus! Glad to see you joining the forums!

Just so you know, very few people complete UQM first time through. It's a hard game. You need to know, right off the bat, that you NEED to write down EVERY date and location given to you.

Welcome to the UQM forums.  You'll definitely need that pen and paper.  Be sure to "save early and save often".  Take your time with the dialog.  There's a lot of backstory and lots of witty dialog that makes each race stand out.  There are a couple of walkthroughs on GameFAQs should you ever get stuck.

Also, the starmap is searchable.  Press / when in the starmap and type the name and it will find the closest match for you.

That one got me the first time I played. I had no idea the starmap was searchable, so I manually scrolled back and forth trying to find the right star.

And when you get there, don't forget to make a map of the exit points of "Pretty Space" also known as "Quasi Space."

That has been on my "things to do" list for 20 years now.
