I have a request. Could you at the same time with this to make sure that the track Exploration (Solar System) by Jouni Ayraksinen not start from the beginning after each planet and continued on. Let start again in the new system, but not after each planet. I think it would be great. Space exploration would be more diverse and we will not have to listen to only 10-30 seconds of the same after each planet from the wonderful 10-min track. Ideally, if the continuation of the track begins from little fade.

That would be a nice thing (and something similar for Hyperspace), but a remix pack can't do that, that needs to be a change in UQM's code.

It is a feature I've requested from the dev team before (years ago), but it has, to the best of my knowledge, never been implemented. I would like to see something like that for the exploration track, the hyperspace track, and any space battle tracks. I don't think any of the others need it. As you say, it's not something we can do as remixers. It has to be done in the code.

Ideally it should work somewhat like this: The current location in these specific tracks is saved (to memory, not to disk. This location should not be kept when closing the game, and it should be reset when starting a new game) every time they are stopped. Whenever that track is supposed to be played again, it is started from the stored location with a short fade.

This would be a change from the original, so it's pretty unlikely to happen in the vanilla distribution.  They're very conservative about deviating from the original in any way, unless it's clearly a bug.

I understand that this needs to be a change in UQM's code. But I wrote it here and now because I saw in the Remix Pack 4 themes for Main Menu and Melee Menu. And I thought that they too needs to be a change in UQM's code. And I also thought that the guys will need help programmers. And I also also thought it was a good time for my request ))

In my opinion, this feature is only required for Exploration (Solar System), because it is ambient and this track is good to listen to at any moment. Hyperspace and Quasispace tracks are more structural and it would be bad to break them. It’s bad to listen. But I agree that this feature can work for battle-track, because there we have only a small pause to select the next ship.

If we talk about the realization of this feature, I think it's not as difficult as it seems, because the game is able to do something similar. If we run the UQM and enter the menu when we are in the star system (or in hyperspace or in quasispace or explore the planet) and select Save Game or Load Game, the music stops. And when we press the ESC, music resume at the point where it left off. I think the realization of this feature does not require a lot of time, but will require the desire and programmer))

Maybe someone can try again to talk to the developers? Or maybe someone is able to do this mod yourself?

There have been optional new features added in the past, and this could also be an option.
Feel free to create a feature request in our bug tracker.

It won't be added for this remix pack release though, which doesn't require any changes to the code.
Support for music in the main menu and melee menu was added before, and is present in UQM 0.7 (maybe even earlier).

On the contrary, as meep-eep points out, the developers have been pretty good about implementing new features requested by the remixing team. Examples include support for music where there was none before, alternate music for a single race (such as pre-Ultron and post-Ultron Utwig), and even changes to timing to suit the music (which I'm not sure if was ever done. It was offered, at the very least). Several changes were made to the code ages ago to accommodate the specific needs of Remix Pack 4, so this is nothing new.

Schizoid, we'll have to disagree about which tracks "need" this feature. You say Exploration only, I say Exploration, Battle and Hyperspace. Since I seem to have become the project leader for the Precursors recently, I'd think I'd have some influence when it comes to how the remixes are used. Wink

Thanks for reminding me about this potential feature btw. It's something that bugged me to no end the last time I played the game and had to listen to the Hyperspace remix start from the beginning over and over again, when there are so many good parts in its later sections. This becomes even more aggravating when you realize that staying in hyperspace means the clock ticks, so the player is encouraged to get away from that place as quickly as humanly possible.

The clock doesn't tick while you're in a menu or the starmap.

TiLT, this is just my opinion)).  But I respect your opinion. Moreover, I believe that if anyone can affect the implementation of this feature, it's just you. And I'll be happy to any realization, as you see fit.

I am glad that you are interested in it, too. Thanks for your support!

Official add-on packages for use in The Ur-Quan Masters are now available for download. An updated installer for the game which can install these packages is available now as well.

Just in case no-one's caught on yet, the new (now in-game playable) remix pack is included in the new 0.701 build that's been released on the main site-
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sc2/uqm-0.7.0-1-installer.exe?download

Unfortunately only seems to have been updated for windows install as yet.

It's not a new build, just a new installer that is able to grab the new remix pack from the Internet. All you need to do to get the fourth remix pack is download it and put it in your addons folder.

If by "the star control 3 thing" you mean Project 6014, I think graphical work wasn't a priority there in the last three months. As I know most of the programming was done on UQM-HD lately, but I doubt modifications that would allow using your stuff were ever made.

Thank you so much for this! Just one question, am I the only one who doesn't get the new intro music to play with the official .UQM file? All the others seem to work just fine though.

edit: I'm having this problem with the HD version, it works fine with the regular one.
