port to the Ouya Game Console possible?

Well the Topic says everything... Wink

Do you think it will be possible to port this game to the Ouya console?
Would be nice having some multiplayer action there. But I don't know wheather it will take too much work or not.

There's already an Android port, so yeah, I assume so (the Ouya runs a modified version of Android). The big question is whether someone is willing to do it.

Part of whether someone is going to be willing to do it is how exactly the Ouya's software distribution works. If it requires some sort of fee, or disallows the necessary terms for distributing UQM (the GNU General Public License), there's a huge barrier. The Ouya just isn't special or mainstream, so it would be a complete waste to pay to distribute a port (unless you think you can make money from it, which I doubt), and it would be equally pointless for it to be maintained only for people who have "rooted" the device.

In any case, assuming the Ouya OS is evil rather than stupid (my suspicion), you ought to be able to play the Android version with a rooted device, regardless of whether there is an Ouya-specific version.

As far as I understood the Ouya team wants to create an Open Source console that is hackable and will support free software. So I guess it should be possible free of charge with a GNU licence. Smiley

Make no mistake: they're definitely not free software supporters. The thing is dedicated to proprietary games. If Richard Stallman knows about, he probably thinks it's a terrible thing to buy.

They might be open-source supporters, but I doubt it. If they were open-source supporters, they would do something like the OpenPandora or GCW Zero. Or heck, just a GNU/Linux computer with a built-in HDMI port. Personally, based on their vagueness of what they mean by "open" and the way they talked about their software distribution channel (talking about charging prices similar to mainstream video game consoles and requiring a gratis demo), I think talking about the Ouya being "open" is just marketing. They say "you can root it!" and call it a day; tons of people jump to the conclusion that they support open-source, and they get those people as customers.
