Favorite ships?
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:06:09 pm »

So what are your favorite ships? While not optimal I'm a fan of the old Cruiser. I almost never use it but, hey, it's cool. Terminator is cool, pity it has almost no energy and you only get them for the last battle. Jugger's awesome of course, fan of the Broodhome and Avatar. Well I'm a Chenjesu and Chmmr fan in general.

Well, I picked Androsynth, Druuge, Yehat, Slylandro, and Orz. The one thing about Slylandro, though, is netgames are usually played with a net delay, and that makes the Slylandro harder to control, so I don't always pick it.

For the Improved Netmelee Mod, substitute Yehat for Ur-Quan.

By the way, Earthling is a perfectly fine ship in PvP and even in some cases in the adventure game, and you can get Yehat ships just by asking them for some.

Oooh right I totally forgot about that. I only figured that out the last times played it.

The five ships I find myself adding to all my netmelee fleets are Ilwrath, Pkunk, Earthling, Androsynth, and Druuge. There are different reasons for some of these. Androsynth is a staple of netmelee in general. Since it's underpriced by at least five point in vanilla UQM, you'd essentially be taking a handicap if you didn't use it in every fleet, and generally most people use it in the balance mod out of sheer habit, apart from its strategic value as an all-purpose combatant and Orz counter. Earthling is universally useful, being highly useful for finishing off damaged ships and in a few niches as a true counter. Druuge is useful for most things Earthling is, and also counters some more important ships. Ilwrath and Pkunk are the two that I honestly pick mostly because I simply like flying them, as opposed to being good strategic choices - Pkunk in particular is overpriced in vanilla, since 50% of the time you will have a dud, and a dud is really only worth something slightly over half of Pkunk's price. Ilwrath (besides having strange and rather unique tactics behind it which I enjoy using) is really only important as an Earthling counter, or as a method of forcing your opponent to commit something absurdly overqualified to get rid of it. Apart from this it honestly has limited use when playing against someone who understands how to fight it.

Very information.  But ahh, I didn't think of it from a net melee point of view.  I was thinking like... style/flavor.  Interesting.  I'm kind of surprised I'm the only person to not pick Androsynth.

Androsynth is a cool ship, and as oldlaptop mentioned, pretty much necessary if you want to have any chance at winning a competitive PvP game.

Chenjesu #1, I've consistently beaten every type ship with it and I like it's sound effects along with it's crystal look.
Mmmrmnhrm #2, capable of consistently beating every type of ship except the Chmmr, it's transformation abilities are useful.
Arilou #3, just fun to fly around and have intense battles against big ships with.
Androsyn #4, I just find myself putting it in all the time, it's fun to use.

I presume you mean Human-on-AI matches. If that's what you're talking, there are relatively few pairings a good pilot can't pull off.

Still, I like Chenjesu. Its flak give it more of a threat than other forward-fire ships.
