There's a tournament coming! With the Stardock news we are expecting lots of new interest in the melee. If you have time, join in for a few fights!

I've never encountered anyone when I tried to start a match, wonder if I will finally get my ass kicked after all this time.

I don't see any mention of your name in my IRC logs... did you use this nickname? In general when you join the arena you should ask for a game and wait some 10 mins - 30 mins to see if anyone is around. Most of us have some kind of bouncer that keeps our IRC online around the clock even if our computers are off.

No my username isn't the same on your website, but 10 to 30 minutes? Why not just haves some public place for people to say what time zone they are in so they can organize matches themselves? Like if someone is in the same time zone as me and I say "8:30 pm", then for them it's also around 8:30 pm, or maybe some kind of giant skype chat room where people can go in general and plan on sending/receiving a signal.

That's what #uqm-arena is. Smiley Mention you want a game (and what timezone you're in if you want) and someone will notice sooner or later. You just probably aren't going to get a game on five minutes notice, the arena's too quiet for that (though things have been better lately).

But what about just some 24/7 chat room? I'm sure it can be constructed with some java-script.

That's... what #uqm-arena is. It's an IRC channel. It's always up and anyone is welcome. Just connect an IRC client to irc.freenode.net and join #uqm-arena.

I'm not having any luck finding a good free IRC host to download, you got any suggestions? I'm not really good at programming.

Here is Gekko's guide, about 2/3ds of the way down it has IRC specific directions.
