The PT-Masters are coming...
|
Hi there,
As some of you might know, PT-Masters a Portuguese UQM translation project has been launched in 2005.
Shortly after opening, the project has stalled due to lack of time and communication problems inside the team.
It is with great pleasure that I announce that this project is coming back, and work is being done.
There is already some progress, and you might want to check the Screenshots on our official project page (www.pt-masters.net).
For those of you that do not speak Portuguese, there is also an English version of the page available.
The PT-Masters project was created to translate "The Ur-Quan Masters" to European and Brazilian Portuguese, and is still recruiting (if you wish to give us a hand, contact us trough here, or our website).
We also lost contact with the Brazilian team that was helping us... should you see this message, please get in touch.
Thank you all for your attention.

Hi I'm brazilian and I wish to translate/ help to traslate UQM to brazilian portuguese. But pt-masters' site doesn't work anymore (yes, I'm aware the last post of this topic was in 2007). Also, in the uqm's wiki, the link for the 'skeleton translation pack' doen't work either. I don't have ANY programming skills (although I'm not lazy, I learned to use linux by myself), and a file like that (the skeleton) would help a lot. I can make the whole text translation stuff, but no audio, no time stamps, no programming stuff like that Does anyone have that file? Or can send me a .zip with all the files I need to modify, and VERY explicit (a.k.a. for dumbs) instructions of what to do? May JuffoWup be with you.

Also, in the uqm's wiki, the link for the 'skeleton translation pack' doen't work either.
You could use one of the translations as an example, such as the Spanish translation. The Ultronomicon page also tells you which files to extract from the main content.
Note that you'll need to add whatever accented characters (anything not in standard ASCII) you need to the ZIP file. You can probably recycle quite a few from the Spanish translation.
I can make the whole text translation stuff, but no audio, no time stamps, no programming stuff like that If you don't change the speech (and have the same amount of lines of text), you don't need to change the timestamp files.
Does anyone have that file? Or can send me a .zip with all the files I need to modify, and VERY explicit (a.k.a. for dumbs) instructions of what to do?
"Very explicit" would get tedious very quick. Let's do this one step at a time, starting with just getting the dialogue text translated:
- Extract the original text files (or whatever you want to use as a basis for the translation). If you have the main content package, something like this should work:
unzip uqm-0.6.0-content.uqm "comm/*/*.txt"
- Translate the lines of dialogue in these text files, taking care to make sure the identifiers and speech filenames are unchanged and line endings are preserved and the encoding you use to save is UTF-8 (check your text editor settings; most modern Linux distributions should do this by default).
- Add PNG images for the missing characters to the font directories (.fon), where such exist. The Spanish translation already has several of the characters you need, so unpack those. I suggest you extract similar characters from the original fonts and add diacritics to those.
- Create a new ZIP file containing the modified comm directory.

Well, spanish and portuguese are not that similar languages so I doubt the spanish translation is going to save them same work, other than taking the created image files for the missing characters (¡¿ ´) By the way, the last version of the spanish translation is v0.4 and you can find it here: http://uqm.starsite.com.ar/UQM-spa_v04.zip
Email me (tehvolkaatgmail.com) if you guys have any question.

Thank you guys, I studied the Ultronomicon page and the game files, figured out what I had to modify, made my own skeleton .zip file, already started the translation. But... But a lot happened since July. Including loosing the access to internet - and electricity (long story). Well, now I got a new job, a real one with labor laws and all... assembled a computer with wi-fi (and have light again), and now I have time and internet to continue the project. By the beginning of the year I hope to have more news about it. I also hope to have figured out a way to make the project more open to collective work, and also ask some help with the image files.

Hi It's me, mamangava. Apparently I lost access to my old login. I admit it's been a long time I don't show up. I came back to the UQM world a few days ago, and realized a lot happened since then, like UQM 0.7.0 and the Project 6014. Last time I touched this, I had started translating the files in alphabetical order (so I started with the arilou lines). Then I changed my mind and tried to translate in order of appearance in the game - so it would be easier to do partial tests. I tried to remember the order of events, looked for a walkthrough to help me, and didn't like any I found. So I switched to making a walkthrough of my own - with an attempt of chronological order, clarity, and as few spoilers as possible. The walkthrough is almost done, and I translated a few files: arilou, starcon, intro, comandr, moonbase, half of ilwrath and a bit of urquan. But this was way back then. It's been more than 2 years I don't touch any of this. But since I finished college I'm able to resume working on this project. And reading about Project 6014 made me excited about it again. I haven't played 0.7.0 yet, I'm going to try to install oldlaptop's ubuntu package. I read it also adds dialogues to a few races.
