Am I the only one who thinks they're overrated? I mean, they're certainly powerful (and boring IMO) ships, but there are many ways to beat them, such as the androsynth which can kill either with relative ease. I can make a list if anyone really wants me to.

The big bad looking dudes of combat of any sort games are ALWAYS overrated.

There are many easy ways to waste an Androsynth as a Chmmr, too. Oddly enough, the three top dogs in my opinion of SCII all come from SC1: Chenjesu, Androsynth, and Ur-Quan.

I think it's just a brilliant example of how well balanced the game is. No ship is unbeatable, if the enemy captain is good enough (Admittedly, Chmmr vs Umgah is a tricky one, but look at

http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/humor/strat2.shtml

for help on that).

I mean, what would the fun of one super shup be? nothing. When ppl talk about the toughets ships arou
nd here, I think they generally mean the ones that are the deadliest in the hands of experienced pilots. Not the big ones that newbies find the easiest, simply because they have big shots and lots of crew.

Yeah...just a thought, there's many ways to waste a Utwig with the "supposedly super weak" ships too...

I like to use the Supox as an example...it's not the ability of the ship but the skill of the pilot...I can waste Kohr-Ah, Ur-Quan, Chmmr, Yehat, and Utwig rather easily with a Supox and a lot of others like Mycon and Chenjesu with a lot of effort.

But against some of the other ships...well let's just say it's a challenge and a lot of the time I don't win, but sometimes I do.

Most of that though is the skill of the pilot and not the ship itself...the Supox used correctly is devastating, but the Supox flown wrong just plain sucks...

Another example to think about...look at the Spathi thread that came out of me posting I could handle a Chmmr with one...yes it's possible...another good set of examples...I can waste a Chmmr with Pkunk and Yehat both...not "big, strong ships with lots of range", no?

this my be a shock but i have beaten a chmmr with a earthling cruiser!!!!!! well more than one. the stadigy is rather simple.

Use the sling shot to get a high velocity on a raming course with the chmmr. once you are at point blank fire you missles. do to the short range the butterflies dont have time to kill of the missles. this requires percise timing. do to you high velocity you sould bounce off the chmmr and get out of the range of those darn butterflies then repeat. this should take the Maximum of 4 cruisers.   Cheesy

It works. Ive done this, but I dont remember why. Grin

Well, note that even at a rate of 4:1, that's a losing proposition for the Earthlings.

Isn't the rate of fire on those ZapSats freaking inSANE? FAR faster than the Earthling point defense.

I can just imagine the look on the face of StarCon HQ when Bioslayer suggest this tactic. Smiley It's very simple really, all we need to do is build four times as many ships as the Chmmr, and we can defeat them, no prob!

i wasn't saying that the idea was sane of anywhere near a practical tactic. what i did say is that it is possible. Wink
