I've just discovered this game for the first time over the past two days. What an incredible game!
However, I'm completely confused about something that's happening during my playthrough. When I went to the Shofixti homeworld for the first time and met Tanaka, the game instantly ended and went back to the title screen after speaking with him. This occurred no matter which dialogue response I chose. So for the time being a just chose to avoid him figuring maybe I need to activate some other trigger event so that I can speak with him without the game ending. Or perhaps I need to have a certain item to prevent that from happening?
The same situation just occurred when I went to the Vela planet with the Ur-Quan ship in orbit around it. I met the Ur-Quan and he said something about expecting my arrival back to that world where the Precursor shape originated from. The game again ended and went back to the title screen
I'm sure it's just a matter of I haven't triggered some event or obtained an item yet, right? I would really appreciate some help without numerous spoilers on this since perhaps I've missed something critically important. Thank you!

No, none of those occurrences are normal. The only time the game is supposed to end like that is when you blow yourself up with a bomb, or when you surrender to the Ur-Quan.

Thanks a lot for your response, I thought it was very strange for that to happen the way it did
Earlier today it happened in another instance. I ran into a space probe battle, and the game ended when I chose "attack" and also ended when I restarted from a save a few minutes prior and chose "converse" instead. The game still ended no matter what statement I chose
I'm playing the port on Wii homebrew, maybe that has something to do with it?
