Pulling Planetary Data from the Source Code?
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:21:14 am »

I wanted to create a sort of "heat map" of mineral and life-form-data resources. Rather than visit every planet to gather this information, I wonder if there's a [reasonably easy] way to pull this information from the source code into a table.

Not from the source code directly, as this is procedurally generated. But UQM can generate this data for you.
You would need to modify (and rebuild) the source code, but it's a matter of changing a few lines. And without too much effort, you could modify the format to suit your own wishes.
You can find a file with the data in the default output format here, but this is probably not the easiest format to work with.

I uploaded a full database of planet properties in CSV form here.  It's available in sortable table form here.

Hope that helps!
