For those of you who couldn't attend, Paul Reiche and Fred Ford gave an amazing talk on the making of the Star Control series at GDC. He also said explicitly that he definitely someday wants to revisit the Star Control universe for a future game that would be designed with the fan base in mind.
I got to meet with him after his presentation to discuss the plans for the upcoming Stardock Star Control reboot. I reiterated that we would not touch the Ur-Quan continuity so that he could (we hope) revisit it at some future date. We then went through a status report on where the new Star Control and discussed the general game design we have in mind. I can't go to many details here but if you haven't read "Ready Player One" I highly recommend it.
We also discussed the role of the Nitrous engine in allowing us to potentially have both a startling single player battle experience as well as what it can mean for a future iteration of the Super Melee concept.
Thanks for checking out the GDC 2015 sessions page! Hopefully you are onsite at the show, but if not the videos will be live 2 to 4 weeks following the event!
Oh, wow. Things seemed so hopeless just a few years ago, not only for Star Control, but also for space sims in general. Now, so much good has happened since then that I cannot even keep track of it all! We had the Star Control reboot made by Stardock, Star Control HD, Project 6014, and now we may be seeing an official sequel, made explicitly for fans like us?
Life is good, my fellow forum-goers.
