Recently, I've been wanting to give editing some StarCon 2 ships a try. And so far, I have had absolutely no clue what I'm looking for. Such as what affects projectile they shoot or what values affect their mobility, et cetera. I use DosBox on a Series 3 Samsung Chromebook, if that means anything? I also have no Hex number-programming experience whatsoever, so if it can be kept simple, I would really appreciate it! I just need to know what things I want to be looking for when editing a ship's file.
I would strongly recommend using UQM rather than playing SC2 on DOSBox. That way you also get the source code, so you can alter ships in drastic ways (see: balance mod).
If DOSBox can be built on a given OS, UQM almost certainly can as well (very similar in terms of external dependencies). You're going to have to figure out how to build from source on your system anyway, if you want to modify the code. You can find source on the download page (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php) and the current git tree on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/p/sc2/uqm/ci/master/tree/). I have a nasty feeling you'll find it a *lot* easier to use something other than ChromeOS as your platform for experimentation, though.
