We did. You did. Yes we can. No.

Having pursued a degree in physics for four years... well, you pick these things up.
Pertinent info for the sun (what I mentioned in this thread) was memorized during an astrophysics course. I don't remember going out and looking things up for these boards more than once, but I have a good memory for numbers. And back of the envelope can get you a long way if you just remember a few critical pieces of information.

I believe that the Ilwrath homeworld is probably the most hostile world with lifeforms in the quadrant. I mean, it's filled with Ilwrath!
Hmm... If you want to know about hostility, let us tell you about Culture Twelve! Culture Twelve was SO hostile that while they were on their way to their first great battle Jugkah, the battlemaster, stepped on Gnusko the tactician's foot, causing him great pain. The annoyed Gnusko turned on his battlemaster, Jugkah, and sliced his body in half! This miffed Jugkah's troops who took it upon themslves to murder Gnusko and his elite troops. The REAL trouble started when now-dead Jugkah's master sergeants Muuhd and Pudt started arguing about how to kill Gnusko -- simple crucifixion, or the slower `Lead Tatoo' technique. The argument was resolved when Muuhd and his five hundred troops were slaughtered by Pudt and his gang. Well, this probably all would have gone down in history as a great day of learning for Culture Twelve were it not for the surprise arrival of Culture Twelve's original enemy, the Yajag and his cronies who wiped out Culture Twelve's army, thus beginning the long and glorious Culture Thirteen. SNORT! Now THAT'S hostility!

Alpha Pavonis, the planet with the Ur-Quan wreck, seemed to be pretty hostile and have life on it. Hotspots, Tectonics 5 or 6, Weather 4...

Life can most definitely survive on a planet with Weather 8, Tectonics 8, and temperature above boiling.
In fact, lightning is actually a good thing for life... kicks all the chemicals in the environment into action and helps form proto cells.
Heck, that's how some scientists theorize life came onto Earth. There's an experiment in Life Science that involves taking completely sterilized water and completely inorganic compounds, and exposing it to electricity, and you get protocells that simulate life processes within a week.
But all rooted/sedentary life is going to have to be pretty damn resilient... Tectonics 8--- that's absolutely insane, given Earth's Tectonic rating of 2, and how bad the quakes get here sometimes. And the mobile life will have to be pretty darn resilient as well. I imagine sea life (if they had any) would be pretty healthy, though.
There are some amazing microscopic life forms even on Earth though... some of them can survive insane amounts of environmental abuse of all sorts.

We are the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah. Our nature, the fulfillment of our fate requires your destruction. You are filth. It is now your time to be cleansed.
