Victory ditties remixing/replacement?
« on: March 16, 2003, 07:47:32 pm »

Theoretically speaking (for now)... if I were to remix some victory ditties, can I use them in the game? i.e., will the game recognize it if I replace content\chmmr\chmditty.mod with chmditty.ogg?

Also - is the remix team planning to do the victory ditties as well?  Cool

It sure will -- just be forewarned that the Vorbis decoder in the game gets a little cranky if the sampling rate is "non-standard".

e.g., I took an 8000Hz WAV file, converted it to OGG, and the game SEGV'ed on me when attempting to play it.  Re-sampling the same file up to 44.1KHz during the conversion to OGG worked fine.

The moral:  make your OGGs 44.1KHz.

yo,

yes, we're remixing the ditties also. If i remember right, about half of them are remixed already.

If there are guys who want to help us in our remixing project, please mail to me! There are still some tracks to remix.

my email address is: riku.nuottajarvi@pp.inet.fi

Thanks!

Is there a way to convert your game into a 3D accelerator,(for the higher graphic shots of course), without ripping apart the game matrix and putting it back together.

I'm guessing at what you mean here, but I assume you're asking whether it's possible to provide support in UQM for 3D graphics acceleration. This already exists. However, it is not really used for anything more demanding than scaling the game display with optional bilinear filtering.

Using 3D acceleration to speed the game up or improve graphics resolution would require major rewrites of the graphics code. Converting the graphics into 3D models would essentially require redoing the entire graphics part of the game from scratch.

Your question can also be interpreted as "Can I build something better than a GeForce4 out of UQM?". The answer to this is "Yes, but it's like making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.".

Now don't snap at me for saying this, but the SC3 Kohr-Ah victory (it's different) ditty sounded absolutely satanic, perfect for the Kohr-Ah.

I really hated the SC3 Kohr-Ah ditty, personally.  It sounded less evil and although the bass was meant to sound more satanic, I liked the lower-toned, death march-style SC2 victory ditty.

BTW, I am extremely excited to hear that the victory ditties are also being remixed.  I have alwats wanted to hear new, covered versions of the ditties, especially my favourites (such as Androsynth, Earthling, etc.)
