Not everything can be verified?
How can you verify something you don't have any good source on it?
Was Snowden a lier?
Not all information is public.
This could verify it against existing information, it doesn't detect deception it just detects if a more reliable source exist that counter it.

Of course we can never be 100% certain of anything. But Bayestian algorithms can give a likelihood of validity. And if in the future all news articles are rated by a few different algorithms which display assumed validity, it will help a lot. And there could for example come a pop-up message for articles that have an assumed validity of less than 50%. Ideally, this could maybe be implemented in browsers, instead of in news journals. Then it would also work for Breitbart News and Fox News, even if they don't want to implement fact checks themselves.
Here is an chrome extension I found (http://nymag.com/selectall/2016/11/heres-a-browser-extension-that-will-flag-fake-news-sites.html). But it shouldn't be necessary for people to install an extension for this. It should rather be a little difficult for people to turn it off.
