I'm not bad at dodging the earthquakes, the fire is hard, and lightning is really annoying.

Is there some sort of pattern to the lighning or a strategy for avoiding most of it?

Any tips would be appreciated.

I dunno, i just dodge the lightning by making really rapid and erratic dodges, which seems to work most of the time. Fire's harder, but it always goes straight (I think), so shaopr turns can help. Anyone else mroe qualified for this?

Firstly try to get many lifeforms.
That lifeforms that you caught you can sell to melmornes & buy for it new technology.
That technology includes: new weapons improved equepment & most important for you, lander improvement such as protection from earthquakes, heat, hostile lifeforms & lightning.

Be happy! Be safe! Fly Precursor Airlines! Please keep your hands and arms safely inside the vehicle. Blah, blah, blah...

With that random outburst taken care of, my best suggestion is to not mine anywhere overly dangerous until your landers are upgraded. If you must land, save your game first.

I normally only encounter fire on planets that are blazing hot and where there is basically no chance to do anything but go down and get destroyed.  Once you learn these temperature levels where this occurs, ignore these planets.... as for earthquakes, just have good reflexes.  I seem to find that if you have more radioactives in your ship, lightning strikes more.  My brother has hypothesized the more you collect, the more electricity it will condutct through these materials... probably not true, but a guess none the less.

Until you get the upgrades, I recommend avoiding landing on planets with extremely hot temperatures. Until the upgrades I never land on a planet with tectonics of 6 or higher, or weather of 5 or higher.

If you're fast you can dodge up to level 4 tectonics pretty easily, and with some luck you can even survive level 5 tectonics... although it's best not to try to clear out a planet all at once when it gets that high. As for weather, I haven't found any reliable way of dodging it. The lightning either strikes you or it doesn't. The damage taken from level 3 weather is generally negligible, but at 4 you'll need some luck. At 5 or above you'll be lucky if your lander isn't fried if you stay down for any lengthy period. Good luck.

I find lightning to be the worst of the 4. It's definetly hardest to dodge.

Agreed - with the big screen I can survive on tectonics level 5 or even 6, but weather level 4 is a big KEEP OUT sign I will only bypass for the more valuable resources.

Now, if I'm HUNTING, even tectonics should be level 3 or less - maybe 4 if the prey is slow.

My best tactic is to have a copilot - someone who tells you which way to go. You keep your eyes on the planet and dodge things. However, as SC2 is in general a solo game, this is a luxury. If you can't have a copilot, MEMORIZE YOUR COURSE.

Figure out where you're going before you go there. Then you don't need to look at the resource map except perhaps to get reoriented after a particular long dodge or hunt.
